Fieldsporthunter 1,864
Has any one got any experience with landrover fuel problems? Landrover I have start and runs on tickkover perfectly but if I start driving it stays at low revs and idles along unless I press accelarator to the floor then release and it press again it drives like there's no fault at all until I slow down or stop then I have to do it again. Its a automatic 2.5tdi with 50k on clock. Any suggestion appreciated Atb
tomburras 2,730
Had same in my 90 (has disco engine in) a new fuel filter was £2 and lift pump £16.50 got her flying again and bout 10 min job to change both. Maybe worth just trying filter first as iv had same symptoms when running on filtered waste veg but fuel filter got blocked with the gunk it picked up from sediment in tank. If you change lift pump buy a bearmach one not britpart the difference was £2 the britpart pump failed quick running on veg and lift pump lever bent of the cam. The difference between britpart and bearmach in quality is huge.
mad4it 694
as above also buy some injecter cleaner
Fieldsporthunter 1,864
Its already had a lift pump and filter and injector cleaner according to last owner. I am going to change them again today so I know 100% its been done, I'm also going to check sedimeter again. Do discos have only have one fuel filter? Is there a inline filter behind the wheel next to tank?
mad4it 694
they only have one filter, when i had my disco i used to change the filters every six months aswell as putting injector cleaner in i used to put the injector cleaner in the new filter, while your doing the filters check all your pipes for any leaks hope it helps.
tomburras 2,730
Some discos have had the sedimenter bypassed. mine hasn't got one fitted as my engine isn't in a disco (disco 200tdi in a 90) so iv never had to look at draining sedimenter. I hear there's a screw to undo on the bottom to drain any water and crap it's caught out.

tomburras 2,730
If the last owner changed the lift pump I'd check it's a bearmach or better one on. This is a 1 week old britpart lift pump and gave me the same problem you describe....... The lever bent off the cam so wasn't pumping properly. If it was mine of do lift pump, fuel filter and bypass the sedimentor. Total diy cost around £20-£25 nowt worse than been stuck at side of road. When changing fuel pump prime it by pouring fresh diesel into it all the way to the top - miles easier than priming with lift pump lever.
Fieldsporthunter 1,864
Still no luck, sedimeter was spotless, slackend bolt on top of fuel pump and tried lift pump and that was working well. Checked fuel lines and there perfect in fact they are new. Motor parts shop near me could only get cheap rubbish parts so going to order bearmach of eBay now. When they come I'll fit them just in case and bypass sedimeter but think the problem is more sinister. Does any one know if putting motor on computer will help. Atb sorry mate for not coming back any sooner, but i was away for a few days,i assume you did not get your truck sorted, its possible it could be in your kick down cable on your auto boxthis controls your accelator,so to speake, can you rev the engine when shes in neutral, with out it cutting out
rob284 1,682
Is it fuel starvation or air. Try new air filter if its not been changed in a while. I dont think you can plug a 300tdi into a diagnostics. is the exhaust smoking?
