I remember the fight fury was terrible but he got the decision by 5 or 6 points cant remember which. i think he stopped him in the rematch but that scoring of the first fight was very poor.

In all fairness that was quite a brave move on Furys part to take on Mcdermott in what was it his 7th or 8th pro fight....ok Mcdermott had already lost some fights by that time but he was still a British Title level fighter.

one question that popped up in my head gnasher.Do you remember a red haired kid tommy shiels fought out of london 86-88 looked a good light middle weight prospect and a good puncher from the odd fights i saw on tv read some good reports on him in the boxing news back in the day .Had about 11 fights won them all then never fought again which i always thought strange as he seemed to have talent.

Thats a bit random Darbo im just trying to click my brain into gear .....I never knew Tommy but i knew his older brother Dean as they were Repton boys Tommy won the aba,s must of been around 84/85.....he turned pro as one of Frank Warrens early signings and as you say was looking a good prospect but he had brittle hands he couldnt get through a fight without doing damage he ended up going to Australia for some kind of special surgery that never worked and he had to retire because of it.......i know he became a born again christian and stayed there a while but havent heard anything about either of the brothers in years he might still be there for all i know...last i heard he was working as a chef of all things !

I bet you was one of them kids who stood at the back urging the big boys on to have a fight...........dry lunch was the term we used for them sort ;)
