Did the ban stop anyone in the first place? I think the good lads kept there head down and the idiots got caught posting on facebook, it would be nice not to have to make two trips for one session tho

Your having a laugh NO they won't lift the ban tory lieing scum

I know what you mean mate, but I heard from a farmer not so long ago that the annual hare shoot last year at Sandringham accounted for about 900 hares, it made me wonder how many other estates have ma

Polls had Milliband winning most are run by tree huggers anyway get ready for the battle this is only the first salvo., hare coursing is showed two or more dogs catching a trapped hare 90% of the public only have a lacs view of what hunting is and not its benefits for conservation and wildlife protection.

The comitee to represent all fieldsports sounds grand ,but...one thing Im 100% cerain of ,apart from a very small minority of anglers who hunt and fish, the fishermen/women will have absolutely nothing to do with fieldsports of any kind, distancing themselves from it in any way possible,Ive only been into hunting more over the last 5 or 6 years,Ive fished all my life, been on comitees, club member and bailiff for some years, fishermen hate being tarred with fieldsports brush with a passion, they feel by association fishing is in danger....a ban on fishing will never happen, but all the same mention it to a non hunting angler and watch their response

Lads in the 60,s wouldnt have thought hunting with dogs would be banned, in the 70,s and 80,s battery hens, factory farms were the best thing since sliced bread until the tree huggers and antis got them in their sights. Fishing may appear safe but already they are restricting how often trawlers can put to sea using the excuse sustainable fish stocks, seal hunting has been restricted, whale hunting is vitually stopped so its not a done deal on any sporting or even food related activity as far as antis are concerned. access to waterways needs permission and licences so it isnt a given right to fish is it ?

Talking about Coarse fishing DB,very few of the coarse fish caught end up as food, although considerably more do now with all the eastern Europeans are here  Trust me fishing as a pastime will never be banned  ,its the biggest participation "sport" in Britain,it generates billions  The antis would be outnumbered massively, its estimated between 2 and 3 million fisherman in the UK.....talking of the 70s and 80s back then the antis really tried to get their claws into fishing,I remember frogmen cutting keepnets during big matches on the Trent and the Severn  it got them absolutely nowhere....(though you aren't allowed to whale on there anymore  )

What is the law I have just read on another post limiting the number of Bass a private angler can catch apparantly it became law on the 1st of April maybe you would like to rethink the post you made this looks like the beginning to me.

A bass angler can only take three bass in 24 hours where the boats can take as many as they want

i know of a couple of stories where "anti angling lunatics" have walked the river banks and threatened lone anglers, and its happened on lakes too, theres been a few mentions of it before in the angling times, and other angling magasines, I've fished all my life, but i am well aware that a lot of people think is cruel and unnecessary,

Originally the ban was going to be fox hunting on horse back. Then it went to organised coursing then to the hunting with dogs act but yes your right it will never happen to fishing, :whistling:

here you go northern lad

A 62-YEAR-OLD disabled angler was threatened by balaclava-clad animal rights protesters brandishing baseball bats and pickaxe handles.

Peter Rainbow, from Bassingbourn, was fishing in the River Granta near Harston when around 20 protesters emerged suddenly and began threatening him.

Mr Rainbow, who was by himself on the river bank, said: "It was nearly dusk ÂÂ* about 4pm. I heard some banging of drums and I thought at first that someone had their car radio on very loud.

"Then there were around 20 people there, all wearing balaclavas and carrying loudhailers. They had baseball bats and pickaxe handles as well."

Mr Rainbow, who suffers from emphysema and has mobility problems, rang police on his mobile phone. They were on the scene within minutes ÂÂ* but the protesters had gone when they arrived.

They did not physically attack Mr Rainbow and he believes they set out just to intimidate him.

"It was very frightening. I had the shakes for quite a bit afterwards. I wouldn't like to go through it again," he said.

The protesters were shouting slogans such as: "How many fish have you killed today?" and "How would you like a hook through your mouth?"

Mr Rainbow said: "We use barbless hooks which don't harm the fish and we return them straight to the river. It just goes to show how ill-informed they are.

"I had some sympathy for animal rights at first. But they just seemed like a rent-a-mob bunch. They looked like terrorists."

Police said animal rights protesters had been demonstrating at Huntingdon Life Sciences on Sunday afternoon. Many moved on to the Aventis premises at Hauxton later and officers believe some of them may have been the ones who approached Mr Rainbow.

Joseph Dawson, of Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) said his group were opposed to all cruelty to animals but would not condone intimidation of anglers.

He said: "As far as we know it was not people from our campaign."
