Living With A Spriner

Sounds stupid, but don't dry it on the radiator, as a young lad I know was going to !

Hello there

The main place I keep it is on the warm side of warm when the heating is on but is no where near any direct heat.

I would not put it near a radiator but never thought about it being in a hot place.

Hello Simon I am running down on H&N sport FTT and the gun shop has not got any and it is hard for me to catch it open so I was thinking of planning ahead and getting a stock pile rather than run

I use LT6 gun spray. Its ideal for bluing as its fast drying. It is also happy to be sprayed onto wood. Gun looks fab afterwards - though I also oil the stocks as a separate process.

Hi there VWman.

As with all the good advice you've been given all I can add is, if you must go out in the rain, prepare to give your rifle some proper TLC when you get it home.

1. TAKE THE STOCK OFF AND LET IT BONE DRY , DRY OFF METALS/BARREL WITH CLEAN, DRY RAG.

2. GIVE ALL THE METALWORK A GOOD WIPE ALL-OVER WITH A CLEAN DRY RAG CLOTH LACED WITH A SQUIRT OF GUN OIL. (I use BISLEY oil. It comes in a can with a spout. Does the job perfectly for me.)

3. MAKE SURE STOCK AND METALS ARE COMPLETELY DRY BEFORE YOU REFIT IT BACK TOGETHER.

4. NEVER STORE YOUR RIFLE IN A GUNBAG. ANY DAMP INSIDE WILL RUST THE BLUEING IN A JIFFY. JUST PROP IT UP IN A NICE WARM ROOM AND SHE'LL BE FINE.

And after some years now, of hearing whingeing excuses from certain gunshop owners about why they can't get exactly the brand of ammo in just the right headsize my rifles desire, -unless I put in an expensive bulk order of 10 tins at least or it's not worth their while ordering them as stock and I have to wait while the sales rep can be bothered to show up. Or it's a case of ."All the lads use these in their guns" he says holding a tin of utterly useless A.N Other brand/calibre, whinge bloody moan, excuses,,,,

There's a supplier for my H&N FTT and Air Arms Field ammo I found on Ebay and he's brilliant. He sends me exactly what brand, in what calibre and headsize I want, at a decent price and prompt! And I don't have to use petrol to go get it...

If you have a decent chap with his well-stocked gunshop and he really takes care of you as a customer, stick with him loyally and he'll go on looking after you. That's an old fashioned service that's not so easy to find nowadays. So don't be afraid to look for bargains on the net or mailorder if your RFD is a bit slack on getting his customers exactly what they want..

Simon.

I use these for jsbs exacts superb service and very quick delivery, you can spec everything, even the batch number
I use both these pellets and if there not too bad price wouldn't mind getting them off him as the local rfd is useless if either of you wouldn't mind could you please maybe pass on the eBay username many thanks ??

Hello Dr B

I will keep a look out for LT6 gun spray, where do you get yours from ?

When you say oil the stock, what do you use on say a stained beech as on my new HW77 ?

cheers.

Sandwell Field Sports, they sell it. No need to oil a beech stock, they're sealed....

Thanks Dr b

that confirms what I thought about the stock, and I have been putting off calling Sandwell field sports because I want to order a rifle but know he is rushed of his feet trying to get rifles ready for people and talking to me will stop him working.

Give him a call Mike and get your order in but be prepared for a very lengthy wait.

Hello Rick

I just have a mentel block as to what to do at the moment, I know I want the hw77 hand built but can't go that long without a rifle.

I have been testing other hw's as a mate to the 77 which to some people may seem mad as the 77 is great. I have narrowed it down to a hw95k which comes with a silencer fitted and seems to suite me very well. I had thought about looking locally for a gun smith/ engineer to do some hand building. The other option is to keep looking for a rifle that has been worked on so I could use it straight away. My head is in a spin but what usually happens when I am like this is some devine intervention/ faite takes over and all seems to come good. I was very close to buying a 95 last Saturday but did not have my money with me when I was looking.

I take my stock of even if it was drizzle, only 2 bolts so why not, surprising how damp it gets under there, I dont buy gun oils, cheap versions of wd40 are perfect for the job and many others, pellets, my local range sells them, £7 for aa fields and jsb's and nig will order what you want,

Well I hit the barn straight after work to put some time in with the new gun.

No scope 40 feet plinking and getting them all onto an a4 size paper sheet standind up.

Real sweet just need to get a scope on it.

What pellets for the Hw 95 ?
