Personally i think the dried foods have a lot to do with the varous cancers effecting dogs as well as organ function .Its not normal for an animal to drink the amount of water needed after dry is fed

That's it Glyn, the better the food you feed the less shit there is. Shows how little goodness their bodies must take in from dry food etc as it just seems to pass through them.

After feeding mine every night for a while my eyes tell me how much, never weighed food. Some dogs digest more than others I give a smaller dog I have more food than a bigger 1 because he digests alot

Trial an error, all dogs are different! If they get fat drop it an vice versa...one of my old Russels was like a dustbin could eat all day, but was more wired then my other dogs so would burn more calories throughout the day.

If you can't get weight on them worm them

This time of year I feed 1lb of meat between 3 terriers every other day,the days in between they get boiled veg, biscuits and drop of gravy.Starve day Friday and meaty bones Saturday. Worm once a month. In the season they get double depends on each dog, some struggle to hold on weight. You will learn mate they all different.

Dogs need all the nutrients a carcass provides. Meat and bone won't do it alone. Give liver, kidneys or tripe once a week if you can. Brains are good too. Meat and bone only will give you a dog lacking in full nutrition.

Like Goat said I prefer to go by eye than weight etc. (I've never weighed a dog!). In a usual week mine get a mixture of dry food, tinned food, chicken mince, pasta, brown bread, sardines or anything that's left over from the table. I like to alternate the food every night. Every dog is different, I have one dog that holds his weight well and 2 that don't seem to, so I feed him a bit less than the others every night. I think it's because during the day(when the dogs are in the runs) the others are always up and alert to any noise they hear whereas the one that holds his weight just likes to laze about.

Forget weighing anything .As said already treat everydog as an individual.Hard condition in thw winter requires more grub to maintain whereas a daily walk or two is basically maintenance for a worker.Pick up the dogs daily as part of a veneral health check and youll soon get to know the rations required .Barf diet does require more than just meat though mate .

Some great advice above. Like the others, i've never weighed a dog, terrier or lurcher, nor their food, i have a old metal jug (a school dinner gravy an custard one,) and i measure all dry in that. If it's raw its measured by what it is and/or by the ammount in the bowl. All done by eye. If your keeping a keen eye, you will see differences almost daily and so by working out the food and then also thinking about excercise, work and seasons you'll always come to the optimum ammount for the individual dog. ;)
