OldTrapCollector 377
Gents (& Ladies of course) I intend to buy a new camera for Xmas for a family present and have no idea which one to get. It will be used for general family snaps as well as for crisp close up detailed work for my trap research, so I guess a high megapixel range would be best, maybe 10 - 12 (?). It would need to store up to 250 shots on a card too if that makes any difference. Screen size is largely unimportant but I don't want to be squinting to see the shot once I have taken it. I should have a budget of around £400 max, and have been looking at the Canon EOS, Powershot etc and similar - does anyone have any experience or opinion of such cameras, or sound advice of which to buy? Guest The Big Fish
If you can afford an "SLR" type camera such as the cannon EOS, then definatley go for one of those
Guest Ditch_Shitter
OTC; Why didn't ye just ask me? Ye know I've already done the running around on this one, mate. The thing's been on my own hip, every day, every where for the last three years! Surely ye've seen the Pan Stamps and Dog Marks I can get with this thing? It's what a govt. employee, whose job it is to photograph doccuments, uses. 'Nuff said? But then again; If ye don't mind lugging a football around with ye, and ye want to get Full Trap sized shots, like in Trev's book? Then ye'll need that SLR Ye'll also need a thing called a " D Flector ". (Sort of lighting studio in an attache case) which I also have. My camera hasn't got the flash power to make it work. Dean O's 'FujiPix / Fine Pix', what ever it is, works a treat. That one's still well within ye price range. My one? A pittence by comparison, but yet a damn fine little camera for any work except the studio shots of whole traps with no background. So really, as we're singing from the same sheet here, it's simply down to wether ye want something not much bigger than a pack of ten fags and which will never leave ye side or be noticed there - whilst taking superb pictures. Or if ye want to cart something not much Smaller than a f*ckin football where ever ye go - but have the capability of those Full Trap, No Background 'Studio Shots' at home. F*ck it; Stretch that budget just a bit and ye could likely afford both!
OldTrapCollector 377
Ditch, I knew you'd know, but I just wanted to see what the general opinion is of a specific make/model. So far, as I had tentatively thought, the Canon EOS 400D seems to have my eye, and with a price tag of about £380 (with 18 -55 lens incl) is within my buying power. I need the sharp close up speciality shots as well as those studio shots, but at the same time need to convince the ball and chain it would be just about ideal as a family snapper Does anyone use an EOS 400D? Any drawbacks to it? Wish you had gone for something else? Thanks for your responses so far OTC
Guest The Big Fish
Thing is Ditch, if you got the money to spend mate, just as well go for the larger slr, as its more versatile and they aint the size of a football For example, could you get a shot like this with your camera? Taken with a canon 350 D I havent yet come across a compact that could
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Thing is Ditch ..... could you get a shot like this with your camera? ..... Of course not, silly! I haven't got a wall eyed Dog! No but, seriously TBF; I too have always rated Canon. I've never Owned one as I could never personally justifie the outlay. But, yeppers; I too would go for a Canon. I've simply never heard anything but praise for them. As said above though; For the 'macro' type shots that I know Old' will be requiring? My little blinder's perfect. But, as he'll also be needing the 'studio' shots of larger articles? Yeppers. He'll have to use a D Flector and, for that, he'll need the SLR. So, no arguement from me there, mate. I'm just hoping Dean O' will help me out with his own SLR, when I come to shoot my mouse and rat boxes, on my D Flector!

maty j 6
i use the 350d and its great, if youve got 400 quid to spend would imagine you could get the camera cheap off ebay and put the rest towards a decent longer lense, bag, memory card etc. have a look for the canon outlet on there, called canon uk emerald or something like that. if you have no luck let me know and ill find you the link mate. i paid under 300 for my 350d with 18-55 lense and that was a fair while ago so should get some right bargains now. allso comes with a warenty when bought from the canon outlet cheers,
OldTrapCollector 377
Cheers lads - that looks like it is sewn up then . . . I am in the market for a Canon EOS 400D. I might just wait until after Xmas for the cheaper offers if I cannot get one beforehand at a reasonable reduction to RRP. OTC

kvnmcwebn 0
if your looking for an enconomic digital slr try finding a nikon d50, d70(out of production) or of course the new d80-not sure about the d40's though-not as robust. There all great cameras and not as plasticy as the cannons. Though its more about the lense than the camera at...
