Taff70 0
Hi guys not sure if this is the right place for this but i've got a question (advice realy). I'm off bolting rabbits to a gun on the weekend. Neither of us have done this before but he's a good shot. When i go ferreting i now normaly use longnets so should i still deploy them? Should i only allow him to shoot rabbits once they leave the hedge or allow him to shoot them running the hedge lengh? should we be on each side of hedge or same side? Should he stand away from the hedge or beside it? Any advice would be great please. Thanks Andy Quote Link to post
ferretman22 1
first rule of shooting never shoot through hedges where you cant see the other side. you can both sstand each side of the hedge as long as your opposite each other and keep good comunication with each other and if can be. be seen by each other. i normally stop the rabbits running the hedge by putting bags each side. they tend to run 5 or 10 yards out the hedge when they see or hear the bag move. i tend not to shoot over the set just in case aferrets in the wrong place. thats how i shoot when bolting to rabbits anyway. happy hunting Quote Link to post

richie 1
one bit of advice i will give you apart from the common sense of not shooting through a hedge that you cant see through and maybe having someone standing on the other side, and it doesnt matter if you stand opposite and make good communication, never stand where a gun can face you, always behind. when your friend is holding the shotty & if he is right handed, stand to his right and slightly back a bit, in the 5 oclock position. as he should never have to point the gun this way when waiting for a bolter or if he pulls the trigger by accident, or slips, as these things can happen, and if the safety switch is by his thumb it might be a good idea to keep it on untill he sees a bolter as by the time he rises it up to aim he could easily take the safety off if hes experienced, you dont get a second chance with a shotty, especially at close range. also when you do need to approach the set for any reason always call " make safe " and wait for a reply from your mate " safe " and just make sure he breaks it open, then you can make your way forward. when im out bolting to guns this method is what i stick to... saying that, im out tomorrow with the nets & shotty, i should have some pics up tomorrow. good luck, and i hope you get a few..
