talpa 55
The US traps have a smaller jaw spread and tine length. I had some samples from Steve Albano when he first started to send them over, he sent some us models and some bigger spread ones for European moles. At first I didn't really see any difference in catchs but then had some miscaught moles and scrapped them . If the European size traps are used they should perform well. I had my first foul caught mole in a long time on Fri, caught by right paw and snout- I think he had snensed the trap and reversed a little and started to back fill, from his purple caught paw he had lived a nd struggled alittle before dying which I always do my best to avoid like most on here. We can only do our best to avoid miscatches but we cannot always see how the land lies in the tunnel when we set in the pipe. How long are the end prongs on the Putange traps? From the pic of the belly skin caught mole the most likely cause is the catching tines bedding too deeply - perhaps due to the very light sandy soil or maybe the tunnel base sloping and the trap bedded horizontally again due to very light sandy soil. Steve himself has said he prefers OOS in very light soils over his own traps. Everything has its limitations we have to use our skills aand experience and choose the trap for the site or adapt to fit to be as humane as we can be. T 1 Quote Link to post
Nicepix 5,650
Now there's the thing. Because the Putanges are similar in height, but the close laterally, not in an arc. And with far more power. I've only had one foul capture in a Putange - a front paw trapped. All the rest have been skull or neck. Looking at the photos posted by Smithie my Traplines seem slightly smaller. Quote Link to post
earth-thrower 493
Looks like you have been sent the "standard" size trapline, Nicepix ? The " larger size " trap, SHOULD provide a better outcome, for both you and the mole, lol if you should wish to try them,in the future ? Quote Link to post
Nicepix 5,650
Thanks. I distinctly remember asking for the European version and in any case the eBay ad said that they would be sent out to all UK buyers. These 'fun size' ones might as well be scrapped then and I'm not that bothered about having any larger ones. Putanges rule OK! Quote Link to post
