jultaylor1972 2
I was up, dressed and out for 6.30am with two of my jills. I'd had a good look around my new permission on the sand dunes the other day so I had a good idea where to get started, I even watched a rabbit enter the burrow I was going to put the ferts in . Collars on, nets set and off we go. The 7 month old jill entered without a hitch, she did come out doing a war dance a few times but after the initial excitement she was in the sets for a good while The older jill was straight down without any bother. I waited and waited, heard loads of thudding but nothing bolted After about 30 mins I put the locator on and it sounded about 20 feet from where I entered them! A good few rabbits bolted but nowhere near where the nets were . After another 10 mins I decided to move to a different location – this is where I bumped into a man I usually see whilst walking the dogs. As soon as he realised I had ferrets, nets and locators he was helping me set them up and keeping an eye out where the ferrets came out! He had such a great time he wants to come with me next Saturday! Then my friend came who ‘hates’ hunting – she was just there 'for the ferrets' . After setting some nets up and entering my ferrets she had a camera in hand and began shouting ‘There’s a rabbit, there’s a rabbit!!’ Again, it bolted and dived into cover , she was gutted, so I have another helping hand ready for next Saturday. Although we managed to catch none – I don’t see it as a failure , it’s more of a learning curve and I’m quite sure longnets and bigger purse nets might be the way forward. Im dead chuffed with how well the ferrets worked they started off getting tangled in the nets but by the end they had mastered how to get through without getting stuck Anyhow, heres a few pics taken of our outing and they should give a good idea of the terrain we were up against. any suggestions will be gratefully received. No, but it is right on the coast. How do you manage on the sand dunes? Any tip would be appreciated. Quote Link to post
