Richnew 38
Might be a daft question for some of you lads but I've just started keeping chickens had them now around two months, when I got them I was told they were 28 weeks old and at point of lay I've got a blue bell, a black rock and two warrens is they a way of telling there age by looks or have I just got to take the blokes word for it? I've kept birds in past but birds I kept was rung as young so I knew by looking at ring how old they where.. Thank Rich

3175darren 1,100
Rich at 28 weeks the should have been laying as far as I am aware, not at point of lay, I find them hard to age some are obviously old birds by there condition,as said above put some pictures up,that might get you more of a idea off of people,

Richnew 38
Someone has mentioned to me that they look like young birds with the size of the comb on top of there head.. He also said that the black rock could start laying because of its face starting to go red.. I'm just not sure on what he's saying because he thinks point of lay is a breed of chicken that he used to keep
David Aiken 253
16 weeks is point of lay. so by 22 weeks you should have 6 eggs per week per bird for at least a couple of months until they settle into the correct laying amount for the particular species of laying bird. The all look to be at least 30 weeks to me?
Chicken_man 1,651
Yep, they look young to me. Should be getting eggs soon. Make sure they have a good diet, plenty of calcium for shell formation, and greens. Best of luck
