bryn27 89
I've got to say it's overtaken the duffus on my ground regards clearing areas for silage. using the hori hori and Talpex direct in the right mole hill is quick and easy. Yes it only catches one at a time I just place more of them and check more often,2 days at the least more often 24hrs if local. 15 out of 18 caught on the horse paddocks final count today. 1 Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
I have 50 of them and rate them highly. Well made and strong and should last a lifetime, hopefully. Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
Yep, I too would rate them highly as boat anchors! Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
Yep, I too would rate them highly as boat anchors! Why don't you like them MT?? I catch dozens a week in them. I wouldn't be without mine. 1 Quote Link to post
bryn27 89
TBH everyone has their own favourite but I'm a bloke that likes every tool in the locker for each setting out. Talpex will never be the only one I carry as theirs always a place on a main run for the duffus and even the odd trapline come to think of it. but pound for pound and time spent they are the gear simple as that. Nicepix 5,650
I've got around 25 of them and find them not as efficient as Duffus traps. I've had some success with them, but I've also had traps sprung and no catch. Its probably down to me not putting them in right although I have tried all the published techniques. To be fair though most of my work is in soil unsuitable for a Talpex so I'm not using them every day like I do with Duffus and Putange traps. I've got about ten out in two gardens this week so I'll see if I get lucky. Quote Link to post
bryn27 89
Thing that convinced me this last weekend was after a lovely family Sunday roast I stopped the car, and popped open the boot. only to find 3 talpex and my trusty hori hori, 10 mins later we were off again with the extended family following behind thinking WTF was that about lol. 3 out of 3 yesterday justified my actions. Nicepix 5,650
Yes. A lot of my work is in what I call 'vineyard soil'. Loads of limestone chippings. I had some good success with them initially in the sandy soil on the farm, but these days mostly I'm working amongst stones. Quote Link to post
bryn27 89
That figures then. Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
I recently bought a couple to see what all the fuss was about, I couldn't catch a mole in one if my blooming life depended on it! Must be doing something very wrong. Quote Link to post
bryn27 89
They are a doddle when set fine, emery cloth the trigger pin to set a fine trigger and go direct down through the hill. Quote Link to post
bryn27 89
Landowner wanted to come along with me and see how it's done, thats a no no and he soon realised why. Quote Link to post
Frontbum 76
I agree the Talpex does the business, its my main trap these days rarely use anything else just got fed up with the flat packs. Nicepix regarding the stoney claggy poor soil conditions, what i have done in the past is taken a bucket of decent soil to a job i knew had crappy clay soil that would be no good to back fill,so back filled with decent foreign soil and the mole was caught. Now some people may say the mole will sense or smell it's a foreign different soil but i've done this a few times with success. And thats why i dont bother to clean my traps between jobs as it doesn't seem to matter. 2 Quote Link to post
