New Bee Suit

I’m going to buy a proper Beekeepers suit for this summer – I’ve been making do with a cheap observers’ jacket & veil so far.

 

Any recommendations or preferences for brands or styles? I don’t mind importing one; there’s still plenty of time.

 

I’ve also seen some camo pattern ones - Any merit in that, do you think? Would wasps be tricked by camo?

I helped my Father with some bees this morning. I moved the brood box and supers to one side to be able to replace the floor of the hive. I had a cheap veil with a hole at the rear and long red gloves with no elastic at the lower arm and weliies.

I got stung three times, once under my chin and I pulled that sting out so it was not too bad, once on my left wrist where the bees had gone down the inside of the glove and once on my right ankle because there were so many bees on the legs of my overalls some fell down into my wellies. After antihistamine cream the one on my wrist was the worst.

First time in twenty years I have been stung by a bee.

 

There are smock ones on the auction site by Thorne and full overall ones by Thorne as well. Thorne are a good brand.

The smock gives very good vision, it can be a bit baggy round the stomach but use some string if necessary.

I have always had a Sheriff All in one bee suit, has lasted many years never let me down, worth the extra money I paid for it.

 

Nice to know that if in confined space with 1000`s of wasps I am protected

 

 

Doubt if camo does much, wasps will still see the shape of person/equipment being used and chase that.

In a loft they are interested in uv light, put in a flykiller and they simply dive in, great fun

Sheriff for me too, the Mrs uses a sheriff also for her bee keeping.
