Chicken_man 1,651
You could transplant cell grown trees I'm sure. Full root system and soil in place. Berberis are good hedge plants for security. Atb
hedgerow pete 25
i thought as much out of season. we will do the climbers for now and see when the season restarts in the end of the year
J Darcy 5,871
I've grown many bushes over the years, for feeding butterflies and moths. You might just be able to order some, but it will be touch and go. Have a look on ebay. Blackthorn is better than hawthorn IMO. And you will get sloes in a few years time. Soak the root for ten minutes before you plant them. Trim them back next March, they grow fast.

gnipper 6,487
Where are you? If you're lucky(and quick) you might find a nursery that has a load of bare root whips in a cold store. We're still planting the last few at our place.
BGD 6,436
A hedge to keep burglars out? A valuable part of a multi layered security system
beast 1,884
If you can get hawthorn or blackthorn then cut most of the leves off to minimise water loss if it gets too dry, and keep the soil well altered, should be ok. Better option might be dog rose or similar, the thorns are evil and they grow pretty quick
stealthy1 3,964
Yep, Wild Rambling Rose has don't f**k with me all over it, and even Monty Don has to use gauntlets
