Cleaning Kennel?

Living in a built up area, what's best to use to clean kennel runs out etc to avoid smells? as with the hotter weather piss is stinking ha

Cheers lads there's no drain or that just on concrete slabs sweep out onto grass so hopefully soak away fine. Not used to this living in schemes always been out in the sticks where nothing to worry about

Jeyes fluid a good one kills bacteria and smells nice aswell, bit pricey thow bout £28 for 5 liters but lasts a while only need a drop of it diluted in a bucket of water

Ye heard about jeyes fluid. Got bleach (domestos) here so will give it a try. Out of interest do yous use hot or cold water? I've always just used cold

i use bleach all week then on sudays jeyes fluid but i have drains aswell mate cant ya run a drain to kennels

I sunk gutter in the concert then connected it to drain pipe in buryed in the ground to the main drain in the garden cost about £20 to do and about 2 hour to do

Jeyes fluid with cold water is what I use.how far is the kennels from a shore or manhole

Easiest way is to set up kennels and runs beside a manhole if u cud.i knocked my old kennels and put them beside manhole and its quicker and easier to do

think of a soak away as a holding tank with a leak depending on the soil it is dug into the water will sit for some time so how much water per wash out how many wash outs drain time of soil easy to judge dig a post hole fill it with water and time how long it takes to drain out look in to French drains easy and cheep to build use same drainage test for soil

Jeyes fluid all the way for me, use it for all dogs and livestock can't beat the stuff.

I'm thinking of putting in a soakaway too as my dog run is at the bottom of the garden and nowhere near any drains. I read somewhere that you need to make it about 3' x 3' but that it needs to be bigger if on clay; like mine. I'd have thought that, as clay is far less permeable, then digging further into it would make it less likely to drain away into the soil. Think I'll try the idea Leethedog has put forward. Also, do you fill it with just shingle/gravel or top with soil?

 

Edited to add that mine is rarely hosed out...not because I'm a lazy sod (though that is true) but simply because the base is a polysomethingorother floor and they usually wee and poo elsewhere.

I use battles black pal, just as good as jeyes but lot cheaper, think 5ltr is £20odd and last a while you only need a cap full in a bucket, if i was making a soak away then id dig it as deep as possible maybe around 8ft mark and half fill with clean stone then just run 4" pipe up from it to your kennels and backfill then just connect aqua channels into it
