Don't know weather I'm being impatient or to put divider back in maybe for a little bit . Any suggestions I have bought this little aviary that sits on a dolly with four wheels from a friend it's well made and if and by middle of May I have still nothing I'm considering letting them into this and make there own minds up . Any youngster is better than nothing what you guys think
fireman 10,884
Patients young Grasshopper.it's still a tad early and i've only 2 greenie hens that have chicks, nothing else has built anything yet. There'll get there but we've not had the April showers to help the insect hatch and the hedges aren't leafed up yet and although we keep domseticated birds to a degree it's these natural triggers that bring them into condition to breed, get the wild food into them and it'll happen in good time mate and best of luck when they do ..

delboy_187 902
This is only success I'm having its not in my yard my friend has a fine big aviary built onto his shed (I built it) and when I had rats eat my birds I moved the remainder to his garden before Christmas . Any ways there wasn't much room for breeders so I kept what I wanted for selected breeding and left the rest in His aviary . So where 50/50 on any youngsters in that flight as we bought and added some. So far we've a pair goldfinchs nesting away the green finch will tread anything and we have witnessed the Siskin tread one the Glosters hens . But it's not in my yard doesn't feel 100 percent me if you's get me

Guest Navek
One my hens has started pairing up.(I think) it's like the hen opens her beak trying to get him to give her food which the response the cock starts to almost look like ther kissing lol ( is this them pairing up ?) then they take it in turns taking dry grass up to the nest pan and take turns lying in it lol..... Love watching them ... Ps sorry for hijacking your thread Delboy. That avairy looks very eye catching mate wat size is it? It's giving me some ideas lol Edited April 24, 2015 by Navek
fireman 10,884
The birds feed each to help the bonding as when she's sat on the eggs he'll be feeding her (hopefully as not all do but she'll feed herself each day when she comes off the eggs so don't worry if you never see it happening ) and with both birds building your'll have a good bonded pair there Navek, Gnasher man has kept birds for a very small amount of time and i'd have a bet some of our own birds aren't that far away generation wise from wild birds although there captive bred etc and ALL 100% LEGAL it wasn't that long ago it was legal to catch and keep them and most old boys i know had or caught there own birds when they were young so the natural triggers etc still run strong in them and it is a total matter of life or death for the young if the parents nest at the wrong time so they need to know when is right and nature tells them with warmth, sunlight and diet ... Delboy there'll go when they are ready mate and paitents is a thing well worth learning when keeping birds mate but my god it's worth it all when it goes to plan and them yongsters start bombing around the place as you will have soon enough
