MIK 4,756
It takes more time to cut the hair in your nose and ears than it does on your head and you listen to radio 2 more than radio

That's how it starts ! My own sad descent from recreational Radio 4 user to full-blown addict is a sad and familiar one !! When I turned 45, I felt something missing from my life. I had listened to Radio 1 in my youth - after all a quick snort of Gary Davies, or a toke of Bruno Brookes, just at weekends, never hurt anyone, right ? Wrong ! Before I knew it, I had outgrown it. It suddenly seemed juvenile to me - something that the younger kids were into. Not for me any more. Then, I heard, from a friend, about this new thing from London. Radio 4 !! Turns out it had been around for years, just a well-kept secret, known only to hardcore radio users........ I listened to the News Quiz a few times, just at weekends - I thought "Just a bit of fun, what harm can it do?". Then I tried a quick bit of Brain of Britain midweek - the cocktail of the two is lethal and leads to a rapid downhill spiral ! Before I knew it, I was listening to the World at One and couldn't get enough You and Yours - on a bad day, I was even hooked enough to try Melvyn Bragg ! It's hold on me got so strong that I would even listen to it in the car ! In front of my wife ! At one point, I had to listen today least 15 minutes of " Today", before I could carry out the simplest everyday task, and couldn't sleep until I felt the soothing effects of the Shipping Forecast - just to think of "Dogger, North Utsire, German Bight" can still be like an itch that needs scratching ! Mix with a mug of Horlicks, and you have one of the most addictive elixirs known to man !! So, if you're feeling lured to try a bit of Radio 4, or even think its just a harmless phase that everyone of your age goes through, beware ! There is no such thing as "recreational Radio 4" ! But radio 4 is class for different reasons......it's the first station I put on as I arrive at Folkestone,,, f**k I even enjoy women's hour!!!,,,,.....but for music & that's good music.....I only listen to BBC Radio 6 music on my Ipad on a daily basis & if you don't you truly are an old cnut!! Radio 1 used to be class, way back when - Steve Wright In The Afternoon (including Mr Angry from Purley !), Our Tune with Simon Bates ("....not only was Linda having a tough time mentally, but she was also in the middle of a nervous breakdown".) and the peerless Mark and Lard (10 pence short !), but I guess it's just been given over to the next generation (or even the one after that). And you're right - now it's just filled with the most unholy racket, and that wretched Ferne Cotton ! Radio 2 is going the same way now. Jo Whiley has weedled her way in, and her show is getting earlier, while the 'music' gets more incomprehensible. She stood in for Ken Bruce a bit back, as have that Zoe Ball and Claudia Winkleman, whoever she is ! Jeremy Vine is fast becoming the only voice of sanity on the whole output.......... Definitely Radio 4 from now on. Pass the Werthers Originals, love - "Countdown" starts in a minute !
talt 878
you know your old when you start forgetting. The other night i put a porn dvd on and there was just a dark blurry picture of some bloke holding his cock. Then i realised i had forgotten to turn the telly on.
