All Round Insecticide

Recommended Posts

I know that that topic of insecticides have been discussed before, but may be other thoughts/comments.

I tend to use ficam W for my black ant work, still works well.

Need to purchase another insecticide for when this fails/2nd visits or for bed bugs/fleas and general crawling insect use, obviously not cockroaches as a much more targeted response needed.

My thoughts are:

Cimetrol

Stingray

Both similar prices

Also seen Rentokil "Deadline Insectaban" for crawling insects

Any thoughts?

Why bother with sprays for black ants? They are only ever going to kill a handful of workers. Black ants get maxforce gel and never get callbacks for the same nest.

For me stingray is my first choice for bedbugs/ fleas, Alphamost supa6 for general sprays.

I never use ficam w as it leaves a visible residue on things and is dangerous to use around cats.

Do very little spraying for ants apart from earosol barrier spray with dethlac across door thresholds.

Maxforce Quantum is the treatment at his time of the year.

It is expensive but so effective it more than pays for itself.

It has resolved some jobs in very challenging environments where all other products had little success.

Agree with ant gels, use Fomidor works well, but there are a few times when customers want to see a quick (but not long term) solution

Please don’t think I’m taking the piss here but you might want to think about doing one of the one-day insect courses run by KG, SX etc. they’re really very good, even for just updating your product knowledge.

Not that you shouldn’t ask on the internet, but I can give you an example of a bloke I met last year: he had obviously seen the words ‘Maxforce Quantum’ on a site like this, he had somehow bought a syringe of it online (just the syringe – not the applicator gun or needles) and was spreading it all over the garden; presumably by pushing his finger down the back.

I have in the past done several courses, but feel there is no reason why not to ask what others use. At the end of day, each and everyone of us will use what suits, either on price, recommendation, ease of use or other reason. For me my final choice will be either Cimetrol or Stingray.

What would be very useful, is if Pest magazines could review products with honesty to their effectiveness

Good point raised there Shropshire re: more non-bias product reviews in the magazines.

I’m still uneasy with names of supposedly ‘professional use only’ products being bandied about on open public forums though.

I personally find it’s more cost effective to use a separate G.R. that can be added as a tank mix as and when I need it – and I doubt anyone who isn’t a pro will know the products I’m talking about there.
