Tozer 385
Dumb question, I have been asked to shoot some foxes locally, they are in the bales, would I be breaking the law letting the terrier flush them out and shooting them? I.e. classed of being to ground? My own choice I am going to try and put this off to September, I don't like leaving cubs. I kind of know what people are going to say, but I did wonder. Guest foxpack
the law is a strange 1 to follow ,,apparently you can use a soft type terrier to flush from earths or hiding places ,,i.e bales,,and shoot them, flushing from cover you are only allowed to use 2 foxing bushing dog.which is ok for us ,cause we have 1 foxing beagle x and 5 rabbiting 1,s. 7 Quote Link to post

taz2010 1,297
yes mate but you will only need 1 terrier if he has worked bales before charlie will be out,do find they take a bit longer to bolt in bales imo 1 Quote Link to post
Tozer 385
I have done this before as a teenager 15 years ago, but I haven't tried since the ban, I haven't really shot or worked dogs for 10 years. Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
I'd also be mindful of putting terriers in those huge blocks of bales, seen some real sickening falls from keen, excited dogs. Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Seen some sickened faces too when the buggers wont bolt in a large stack and the dogs in the middle 6 Quote Link to post
taz2010 1,297
seen lads nearly killed in bales happened to me 2 years ago lad released to dogs like an idiot after being told 1 dog was enough, dogs started scrapping when they caught up with charlie.I climb down and had to tunnel in end up falling down upside down took 2 lads to get me out never again and as you will expect that lad as never been with us since 3 Quote Link to post
Tozer 385
Yeah all these things can go wrong, I would only ever send one down. The ones I am thinking off I hope are just a straight tunnel in the crease of a round bale, but you never know where there are gaps. One of my dogs won't go in far, the other one gets in and through them like a ferret, but I wouldn't fancy her chances facing a fox, she is only small. I just read this properly. I reguarly take 3 dogs rabbiting. You bump into the odd fox. Does this include lurchers or just flushing dogs? ( Quote Link to post
Guest foxpack
can,t use lurcher s for foxes ,,unless in scotland if the fox has been injured you can slip a lurcher to dispatch ,,we have lads standing out with rabbiting lurchers .and a lads with guns for fox . 2 Quote Link to post

I kind of meant do they count within the flushing team, but if you are after foxes then it all becomes a bit irrelevant, I have read the hunting act, it pickles my brain a bit (not that it takes much), I can see what they did, trying to legislate something that isn't black and white without leaving everyone open to prosecution from accidents etc. Quote Link to post
