Just a update I spent the last two days with my dog and he didn't seem that bad yesterday but this morning he took a turn for the worse so I rung the out of hours number and booked him in for tommorow

No great rush, see how he goes, you'll know when the time is right, as long as you use your head, not your heart.   Cheers, D.

get a second opinion from another vet...

You know your dog better than any vet ever will, so it's solely down to you to make the right decision, I'm afraid.

As has already been said, don't let your emotions or sentiments cloud your judgement.

Best wishes, either way mate.

Sounds like he's had a good life and we must be careful not to let our emotions come before the dogs suffering. Personally I would have taken the vets advice it's just prolonging the inevitable. Hope I'm wrong and good luck whatever you decide

whats been said already. Get a second opinion. you know your dog better than anyone. when you see him suffering its time to get him pts. Never nice but has to be done when time comes. theres good and bad vets. Some seem to not give a sh1t at all and are out just to make money.

Yep, i'd have just gone with the vet. No if's but's or maybe's...

It don't sound like the vet is/was after your money, more like saving you a few bob long term...

It's never easy but I agree with Paulus, the dog should always come first. ;)

i would of took the vets advice and pts. there and then. but its your call and you have to go with what you feel is right for your dog. not an easy choice either way . atb

If i'd have done that with the last vet i took my lurcher to she'd be dead instead of a 100% fit, healthy and slightly handy lurcher asleep on my sofa..second opinion for sure and good luck with what ever way it goes GL

If the vet was just after your money he wouldn't of suggested PTS mate. He would of been suggesting treatments, scans, swabs, tests, tablets, you name it.

As said above it's always a hard decision but don't let your emotion control your head.

If you really have doubts, then get a second opinion. If you get the same advice then you've done all you can for him.
