young man 225
Some of what I know as old fashioned Russells, were probably Sealyham blood in various percentages. Russell bred dogs 'up on the Leg' for running with Hounds. I suspect digging fellas maintained some Sealyham to keep the height down and working ability. The shortness in the back coming from the Russell side. All hypothetical, just what I think about some of these 'Old fashioned Russells'. The ones I saw being used as a youngster and some I had were certainly like some of the Sealyham Russells you see in some Yards now. There were some with a bit of length to them. I could be totally wrong.....lol. what use are they running with hounds? Quote Link to post

Cleanspade 3,322
they dont need to run with hounds they fit in your pocket .. mounted packs often had them in saddlebags 6 Quote Link to post
Moorside 642
I was just about to write the same thing cleanspade. Ive seen pictures of russells being carried by mounted huntsmen, doubt any russell could stay with hounds on Dartmoor where the famous Parson John Russell hunted. Quote Link to post
leethedog 3,071
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there photos of a famous terrier man carrying his patts in a satchel so it ain't only the little Russells that struggle to keep up with hounds Quote Link to post

Keepbordersworking 103
Border terriers bred to run with hound then do a job of work. Quote Link to post
young man 225
When we are messing about in the summer evening's I put a school bag on facing front set the terrier in with its head out and lurcher on the lead and jump on the bicycle n let the lurcher trot along side :-) works for me 2 Quote Link to post

Sean Hartigan 101
Yes leethedog, I did breed him & he's not much more than 1 & turning out to be a good little worker, I'm really looking forward to this autumn/winter, he's a very smart dog in a lot of ways, very nearly talk to you 2 Quote Link to post
