Bryan 1,362
Them wankers back then didn't have a clue. A lot of them didn't even have broadband. Like you read old reports of rescues and after hours of lying quietly on their bellies listening for a bump or knock in wind and rain they'd enter a second dog? What a bunch of jokers, didn't they ever hear the rules; one dog, one dig, no sound, upload a video? Even the locators back in the day were Analogue! WTF? Who enters a dog without a triple antenna 457 kHz digital transceiver? We know way more than them, we learned it online, the hard way. 18 Quote Link to post

Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Theres a place near me on a farm called the copse ,as you imagine a small wood .Within there is an earth that for years we were told to respect .The Beaufort hunt terriermen avoided it ,from NS to TB and few between but it always held an attraction for me .When my mate got the job as shepherd on the place foxes were looked on as a menace so we did our best around the surrounding small earths with a lot of successs but the day came when we blanked early on and it was to this undiggable place we went .Huge piles of sand at the entrances were a bit daunting ,a few tunnels went straight down but i had a good feeling so in dog went .This was Deben days so took a while to find my old bitch Willow but find her we did at the far end at 4 ft which we dug with no problem .From that day 13 ,14 years ago we have dug it regular with never a hitch and never over 6 ft .There are a few places i wouldnt drop a dog around me but have since been dug by young lads that luckily have succeded.Age would now be against me trying a bad spot purely because the body is not what it was and i realise that .Give me half a dozen 2 footers now and im happy lol. 7 Quote Link to post
Rabbit Hunter 6,613
Good story that, I think a lot of big earths that are avoided are deep in the tubes but in the stop ends they're usually a lot shallower, what the reason for that is I don't know. Also maybe a dog that wasn't very good was used and maybe didn't push the game to the stop end and that created the legend when it was baying at the fox but 8 foot away from it. Quote Link to post
