hutchey 147
You've opened a hornets nest Loads will have opinions and quote laws or guidelines but MY PERSONAL is a 22 Centrefire. My FLO doesn't like 17HMR for Fox Quote Link to post

doie1 22
hi lloyd, not sure how much my advice is worth as ive only been shooting a year. i have a cz 455 17hmr and i think its great, i use it for rabbits and foxes and havnt had a problem with it. i think you might of started a recurring debate on wheather a rimfire is suitable for fox! what sort of ranges are you looking at shooting? hunter1 63
Hmr is no good for foxes unless it's around a 100 metres . Get a 223 or 22.250 do the job right . Hmr works ok for small vermin . Quote Link to post

Lloyd57 98
I am probably looking at 100-120 yds at the most, rabbits will be my primary target as I say the odd fox or two. Regards Lloyd Quote Link to post
doie1 22
In that case, the hmr will be fine Quote Link to post
hunter1 63
Hmr is good fun on the rabbits . I have seen a fox shot at 187 meters but that was a one-off . Quote Link to post
Cedric 132
Hmr is the choice if you are fairly novice, your local Firearms dept will look upon it more favourably than a centrefire as a first rifle. Quote Link to post
jacknife 2,005
If I were you I would put in for 22lr...17hmr....223 All easy to get rounds for and will cover all your needs All will kill rabbits and foxes Quote Link to post
Lloyd57 98
Thanks for the replys lads, when I decide what gun or guns to get I will let you guys know. Regards Lloyd Quote Link to post

Regards Lloyd If it's rabbits mainly then HMR, .22LR or .22 Magnum really as anything else becomes too expensive to run. If you're eating them, then anything other than LR needs a headshot. Check out this thread here as plenty of advice on HMR vs fox: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/340816-same-old-question-maybe/ Quote Link to post
