BGD 6,436
Only change I make is splitting her feed into smaller meals throughout the day as she gets bigger then when the pups are born plenty of green tripe on top of her usual feed Edited April 16, 2015 by BGD

RussBoy 77
Is there a risk of pups getting too big inside the bitch if u up her food?
BGD 6,436
Is there a risk of pups getting too big inside the bitch if u up her food? Not something I've ever come across, my main worry with upping the feed too much is making the bitch overweight and so making the delivery that much harder for her. Ask any woman giving birth is like running a marathon you want the bitch fit and healthy the whole time she's in pup so she's ready for what lies ahead.
neil cooney 10,416
Feeding as much as she wants is something I would not do. Like has been said before, good quality grub for a fit, healthy bitch. Predators in the wild when heavily pregnant actually slow down and catch less.
desertbred 5,490
keep the bitch active and muscled . make sure quality food is given touching all the bases of increased potassium , calcium and vitamins , the bitch will need slight increases in the volume consumed as the pups take their entire nourishment from the bitch so as they grow the demands on the bitch increase ,unless the bitch is a glutton she will eat what her own body needs. Nature usually controls the size and number of pups it is usually a breach or an abnormally large head that give birthing difficulties most bitches who are fit and healthy whelp easily.

steve t 931
Thanks for all advice, this is a greedy bitch and would overeat if left with ad lib food, I'll keep her fit and keep her on good grub thanks
jeemes 4,481
start the big feeds once they are born with plenty of fresh raw meat and goats milk. You need to feed the machine thats feeding all the whelps aswell as the machine itself..
