Guest Navek
Anyone keep painted quail ? Thinking about getting some for the aviary just wondering what there like noise wise and if they are hard keep. Cheers
fireman 10,994
The little chinese ones are ok to keep but the jap ones will eat your fledglings or at least try to,the only thing about keeping quail in aviaries as i have found out is in you have feed down for them most of the time and this brings in mice and they don't keep a aviary clear of spilt seed not even if you stop feeding the quail.I'm getting rid of mine this week and although it's funny to watch them scooting about they ain't worth the hassle to me any more.

fireman 10,994
I'm on 3rd generation self reared,i just left the eggs until there were a dozen then took them away as they won't sit on that many and one time the hen laid about 10 and sat them, they are the hardest of things to keep alive as they can get through most aviary wire when they just hatched and will find water to drown themselves but some do make it and they will sit and rear their own a bit easier and so it goes on.As for laying all over they do but give them a little shelter to lay in and they will lay in there most of the time,my dogs love the eggs and i just throw them in the air to them and they catch and eat them shells and all
