Some Moles Just Know?

Recommended Posts

I do not know how or why, but certain "families" of moles just "know"?

Checked two fields today, adjacent to each other. Field 1 had 15 moles trapped, all in duffus traps. Field 2 had NO MOLES, every trap filled with soil. Whats going on?????

you trapped them after they they had filled the earlier traps perhaps or you set the traps different in field 2 and they knew it.

I've a right tricky sod to tackle tomorrow, Tis a love job for friends but the twat has evaded me for weeks amongst different shrub and flower beds.

He's out in the main grass today I see with 4 hills and a lovely meandering run.

full blown talpex attack in the morn.

I'm puzzled by that too. Some gardens the moles queue up to go through the traps. I'm up to 29 trapped in one garden and never had a trap back filled. Yet sometimes on other jobs all the traps are filled. Thankfully the Putanges sort them out, but as you say; it is a mystery why some won't go through the traps after all that time and effort you've put in for them on their behalf. Its almost as though they don't want to be killed.

Had 24 traps in the one field, and 9 in the other. Must have done something very different in the 2nd field, but what? Maybe the small herd of sheep in the field had trod on traps to dislodge? or moved slightly as moley was approaching?

Will be checking again later to see if I have any luck this time

Some moles are just so ungrateful

Don't worry about it, it happens! I've two playing silly buggers with me at the moment, stress, aagh.

Generally I put in a trap of every sort I've got around, ie, a Fenn, duffus, trap line, talpex etc, eventually they all make the mistake.

MT, not worried, just baffles. Your quite right though, in the end "we win" There is no choice

I've experienced the same problem and yet two days later caught five in the traps that had been blocked. On Wednesday I had a Flatpack trap blocked and since then it has caught a double, twice. Same trap, same method of setting.

I think there are some moles that for whatever reason are wary of anything new and go under the traps rather than through them. If I get several traps blocked now I clear the hole, replace the same trap, but also put a pair of Putanges in the same area. They are much less likely to be blocked.

try another mole too  help them make the mistake sometimes, doubles are for a reason.. replicate.

take advantage it can be a humbling lesson to have a mole play up.. especially if your use to 2 or 3 visit jobs and go in confident of a quick result.

i wonder if field 1 is more males than females.. i rarely look unless asked by a customer about the gender, but it would be interesting to see if its females that are the problem for you in field 2.. im not sexist but you know how nature is
