Bridlington Fishing (Message To All Anglers)

Recommended Posts

Quite a sad day as a fisherman for myself.

If your reading this your probably a fishing enthusiast and as ive been fishing nearly all my life, not just sea, but course and becoming quite the fly fisher myself im getting quite intelectual about how to fish, not just swinging a rod out but the finer detail (Time of day, season, weather, rigs, bait, what fish, where etc...) but...

Whilst fishing on Bridlington harbour wall (my local) every fisherman/woman/child knows its not what it was, you can wait from high till low, whatever season wherever on the wall using whatever you have, some days are just good but from my experience they are quite bad...

Now i dont claim to be a master fisherman and there is always tips and tricks im keen to learn as always but when using next to all i know on that day i know i shouldnt have fished out what i did.

So me and my mate set our lines up on, feathers with reflectors hooked with rag worm and mackeral thick around it to keep it tight, with a flatty line sinking low off the weight, muppet filled with mackeral and white bait.

so we cast about 90-100 yards out using the multiplier (average what we get on the field when practicing and the wind was behind us so were just saying... "It wasnt too bad actually") and 20 minutes in we cant believe our luck...

Every fisherman gets that feeling when the rod starts to shake like it did! we were hoping for a 4lb fish! (obviously an exaggerated feeling) so we reeled it in, the fight the fish gave wasnt what we expected though... Giving us shallow feelings we carried on reeling in and brought up a damaged flatfish.

The tail fin had some hacking to it, the belly was in scissor sweep slashes and one eye was missing... we didnt weigh it, just unhooked and put it back.

Later on about halfway through our fishing trip we had another shake of the rods! Not any fight yet again...

We laid a flatfish with spine and flesh showing with only 3/4 a jaw.

Me and my mate this one was too poorly injured and he put it out its misery with a quick death.

We dont like killing fish and taking them home for tea unless theyre quite a big size such as 6/7lb (Which is a very rare occasion) but its worse when you have to put it our of its pain.

Just relieved the little fella was put safe now.

Not writing for the sake of it but if you could be bothered to read on this far i just wanna say that if you do catch fish wounded as bad as you think do the right thing... if you get what i mean?

oh? no you dont understand..? I'm not dishing out advice or anything? i'm asking if people get injured fish because i was worried i'm going to carry on getting them if i start going to other places... and i have been fishing all my life, i don't pretend to know EVERYTHING but yeah i do know a fair amount on fishing? Someone obviously didn't read my apology?

I thought we had all started getting along... thats why im asking things and posting... seems to me like a bunch of lads who just want to put down a kid for trying... now im not getting all cocky but if that was the case then you all better turn it around, i took a load of crap from all you and theres no need now... theres nothing wrong with what ive written! I do more fishing than shooting so i know what i wrote was perfectly fine. You dont need to talk me to me at all if your only going to be slanderous.

And thats not what this site is about is it.

i think it could be something to do with the fisheries? Maybe not though..

Or it could be that some kid has brought it up, hacked it then thrown it back :L

But if other anglers had had other fishing experiences like this then it could be the same thing...

I dont know really at the end of it what could have caused it so it seems like a problem still.
