budgie123 163
Usually there are 2 different senarios. Externall nest with forging ants entering premises. Internal nest which at some stage produce flying ants inside which indicates internal nests. If you are a proffesional use maxforce quantum where foraging ants are visible inside the premises and at the base of the building around the premises. If non proffesional nippon gel. Gel bait is very effective when used early season when there is little alternative food sources and when nest just become active and ants are looking agressively for food. The window of oppertunity for gel baits is small and seems to get less every year especially with internal nest with flying ants being seen the last 2 years in early may. I would target the external areas in relation to the rooms effected gel is classified for use at the base of the building. In relation to powder the quantity used makes a difference something i learnt on a training day with tony hudson from bayer. He had an array of all sorts of different brushes for applying thin coatings of powder rather than thick bands. Thick bands ants sense and aviod but thinly applied coatings they do not. This works so effectively and there is a potential for ants to carry the powder back to the nests as it does not kill them quickly. Appling a vey thin coating of powder into the pile of the carpet at wall to floor junction and rubbing or brushing into the carpet has resolved a number of problem jobs for me. Even on very dark carpets if very fine ammounts are used and rubbed in it is not visible. It is the most residual product you can use. I personally find water based sprays ineffective. A prodect called Dethlac which is a laquer based areosol has proved very effective as a barrier spray across door thresholds and based on a laquer is long lasting. 1 Quote Link to post

A good idea about thin coatings of powder, will use that one. Had fair success with using Formidor gel, but does not look particulary professional as comes in a little plastic bottle rather than the quantum Quote Link to post
