What lense would I need for action shots ?

A lens is rated in 'speed'...the technical terms are the F value. F2.8 is about the best you can get , (broadly speaking), and there is a great deal of difference between F2.8 and F 5.6.

For action shots get the lowest F value you can afford....and, at the end of the day, todays photographs often comes down to the quality of lens...and this, in turn, comes down to the money that is available to spend...

You can pick semi pro d300s up too on ebay for well within your budget, cracking camera

I have a second hand D300,....I thought that I had cracked the Instruction Manual,..I thought that I understood ?

Sadly,..I don't...

I realise that this Nikon camera was designed with the Semi pro in mind, and it is presumed that the operater has a firm grasp of the various dials,.but,.truth is, I wish that there was an AUTO facility....a kind of, 'point and shoot' menu...

I am fed up, travelling to a far away destination ,..allowing my cur to hunt up her quarry,..only for me to waste the opportunity of an action shot.

Upon reflection,...the Nikon D300 was maybe a bridge too far ,...especialy for an old fool and his dog...

You cannot take action shots on auto. IMO, there is only one single mode to shoot on and that's manual. No if's or but's, manual is the only way anyone is going to consistantly get useable photos of working lurchers. But that's just my opinion.

Thanks for that bit of advice
