jwhizz420 177
Fantastic bit of kit, turning, striking, stamina, if you got a drivey dog you can hammer them on it Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
JMHO and I've used a flirt pole plenty but it makes no sense whatsoever to use a flirt pole on a running dog. None what so ever. Its not used for running dogs but running dog pups,in which case it has a lot more relevance than for a terrier whos job below does not involve chasing or making sudden changes of direction. For terriers it is only used for fitness. Lets be clear,Im not talking about dogs hanging off rope tied to a tree. Im talking ten foot pole and rope with lure or fishing rod type. got to agree, a very handy tool for pups. can be used to work on strike, retrieve, release. Not to mention fitness and co-ordination. short sessions, little and often work a treat. Also useful for taking a little steam out of a sapling before doing any obedience work. Quote Link to post
jwhizz420 177
Not just used for running dogs, I got the flirt pole from the zintti handbook, which is the holy grail for fighting dog conditioning, you can really hammer ya dog on it Quote Link to post
terryd 8,684
Fantastic bit of kit, turning, striking, stamina, if you got a drivey dog you can hammer them on it wouldn't a drivey dog be an issue though one that would go at it 110% do or die type. All that turning twisting and speed in such a small area or you just let it nail in 2 seconds being the only other option ? All them stresses would far exceed what it would do after a jinking bunny Quote Link to post

Definitely pays to make friends with them if you keep the sort of dogs that cant be turned loose in public 1 Quote Link to post

Shamo 319
If you are going to use a flirt pole on a Puppy, You would get better results doing 3x3 minutes, with a few minutes break and rubdown in between. This time of year with a Puppy though, I would just enjoy it's company and concentrate on playing, socialisation and obedience while out and about, plenty of time for fitness training as he gets older. Most reasons some use FP's don't come in to the equation with a Puppy. Quote Link to post
night warrior 178
When yousing a poll with a pup its not about fitness its about just keeping them alert and bizzy and a bit off fun and chasing things all in all you can throw a ball or a toy i youse a poll but that what i do and my dad before me no set rules to bringing your pup up just do what suit u and pup Quote Link to post
