bobcullen79 1,495
Hey All. Well after getting the bug back I got the rods out for a few hours on Monday, only had two hours twenty minutes and managed a 16.2 common. At 11.01am, one minute after I was sposed to have packed up and be homeward bound to get back for the nipper, I had a fish on! Naughty naughty, but these things happen Problem was, I hooked it reeling in, so I knew it was a foul hooked. And being the only action I`d seen from the whole lake since arriving, I played it ever so gently, feeling like John wilson, 20 sets of eyes watching... After about 5 minutes I got her in the net and didnt mention the foul hook too loudly, a fish is a fish, especially if no one is catching. Yesterday went very similar. Got there for 10.30 with the lake much less rammed and jumped in the same swim as monday. Around 11.30am the rapidly warming sun burnt all the cloud off and pushed the fish up to just below the surface. I the decided to change the bottom baited rod to a zig rig, same as the other rod. One was fished at 4ft and the other 5ft, bit of red foam on one, black foam the other. The fish were there... Shame most of them were sunbathing. Then around 1.30pm the left rod rattled off, my first proper screaming run. The guy in the next swim commented that I was on my rod before the alarm went off, to which I replied, yeah I`m a bit rusty After a short fight she was mine. She didnt feel that big coming in especially compared to a tail hooked 16+. As my cousin lifted the net out the water I could see it was a 20. I gave her a weigh and it came in at 21.8. Happy days. Out came the nikon, I gave my cousin a quick lesson.. No battery. Ffs. Dodgy camera phone job again... Ended up getting off at 4pm with just the one in the bag, but it was one more than everyone else The 21.8... 13 Quote Link to post

bobcullen79 1,495
They are mostly commons in this pond, fast growing types and a handful of mirrors, two grassies and a couple of koi. He nets it most years and takes out all the small stuff. He reckons theres nothing smaller than 15lb in there. So you can see why its popular. Funny though cos Ive fished it 15 years and cos the new lads dont recognise me they think I`m new to the lake and give me "tips" Quote Link to post

bobcullen79 1,495
Nice fish , its still special when their over twenty .. Oh yeah definitely. Theres just something more special when your on your own, under no pressure and in a nice, wild tranquil place. Its a million miles away from a commercial fish. Big, old, slow grown English fish are where its at. This one was around the same weight, but probably 30+ years older and much more satisfying to catch. 10 Quote Link to post

I walked the dogs past a small commercial pool the other day, just as a lad and his dad were going. Bread everywhere, so in goes all their surplus bread as well and home they went... By the time I had my little walk, lapped a field or two, the carp were up and slurping. The carp knew the crack as they were all feeding on the drifted bread, everywhere but where they were fishing. 1 Quote Link to post
