Broody Questions

Recommended Posts

Ok well surprising as it is with all the poultry I own I'm yet to have a broody :cray:

BUT a light Sussex chick I hatched last year has recently started laying, in the goat shelter of all places! Anyway today I noticed her getting on strange, I was putting in all her coop friends and I noticed she didn't go in so I looked for her found her in the goat house "sitting" on her egg. Now I'm unsure if she'd just layed it or it was layed a short time before but she walked out doing her egg song when she saw me. Two minutes later away back in she went egg song started again.

Is she showing signs of being a broody?

Light sussex cross silkie go broody at the drop of a hat this was in december. i found light sussex make good broody birds when she is ready she will sit tight and cluck and peck at you if you try to disturb her. As said move her to a quiet place and place some dummy eggs in the nest box if you want to encourage her. i enjoy hatching a few chicks out every now and again good luck.
