Hopefully these few old pictures and some of recollections from my early teens (the late 1950’s and early 1960’s) may be of some interest. They’re all old style “rag whippets” and pre date the require

Yet you keep saying whippets can't catch hares, and I've only owned one dog, briefly, in 1976, that I've any experiencence of!!

Faaack off, Gooey, you plum!!  😄 👍

And, just to be clear, Gooey, I've owned running dogs, quite a few actually, for longer than you've been alive, and caught plenty of hares with them, and no saluki blood in them, whatsoever.  🙂

Like I said, Gooey, I've owned running dogs, pure whippets, pure greyhounds, lurchers, with no saluki blood at all in em, and they've caught hares.

And I'm pretty positive there are plenty of people on this site are the same.

I've owned two dogs with saluki in em, about 30 years apart, and I wouldn't want another.  They just ain't for me.

To live with a bitch is easier,  I have to lead walk from house and she will empty out bowels job done.

Where as the dog would piss and shit for miles, over a 2 and a bit mile walk a dozen dumps 50 pisses.

Unbelievable that fecker was perhaps he had something wrong with him.

The dog was called Nero,he killed a lot of hares over the year's plus other stuff too,I've seen the dog kill hares after 3 minute plus which is no mean feat for any dog,ran mostly on an airfield with runway's & big patches of gorse dotted about so they weren't easy hares..in fields he was better still, big fields but not fenland. The dog killed 3 hares of a morning many many times Chaff. He wouldn't of cut it on fenland but elsewhere I guarantee he wouldn't of disgraced himself, great little dog he was. Sadly he's long since gone but the lads who ran him regularly will have a hell of a lot of memories with him & he left a good impression on me too.

Seems to me there is not much you can't do with a well bred/conditioned whippet. 👍

You can have a bit of fun with them for sure, but to say there’s not much you can’t do with one is stretching it a bit, there’s plenty of things whippets can’t do, and that’s nothing against them I think they can be good little dogs but they’re certainly limited
