No, I knew instantly that you got your maths the wrong way round.

It was 50 years ago when I was handicapping and whippets and greyhounds have got faster in that time, so if I was to do it now, I’d handicap at 17 yards per second rather than 16 yards per second as I used to.

Now you can get on with the homework I sent you and also write 100 times “ I must not contradict on something I know nothing about” !
Cheers.

lol like i do me shoes

would you say greyhounds are better chart ? ballyreagan bob wasn’t far off running them times over 720 meter was he

Il start.. 2 year old. Bred from worker to worker, mostly ferreting, lamping mooching dogs, 21" pics have been put up before.

My whippets. Dam and son

Hopefully these few old pictures and some of recollections from my early teens (the late 1950’s and early 1960’s) may be of some interest. They’re all old style “rag whippets” and pre date the require

I’d say the times, on average, have improved.

Ive not really looked at the times in detail for greyhounds but I do know that the non- ped times have improved dramatically.
When I came home 20 years ago and got back into the whippets I couldn’t believe the times the lads were telling me so I bought a stop watch and sure enough the times were right.
They’ve improved again in the last 20 years. Back when I was handicapping, a scratch dog would do 9 seconds for 150 yards, 20 years ago there were very, very few that were doing 8 seconds, now there are quite a few getting below 8 seconds , that means the best dogs are at least 16 yards faster over 150 yards than the used to be..

I put this down to selectively breeding the best to the best and only adding the very best greyhound blood, not failed track dogs.

We used to use small greyhound bitches to cross with whippet dogs that couldnt do the times on the track as they were readily available and the non-ped whippets had a weight limit of 32 lb, but now the weight limit is 55lb so bigger, better greyhounds can be used and the pups that get too big for weight handicaps can go into the heavyweight and no limit scratch races.

Cheers.

a greyhound may run 16 yards a second handicap over 100 meter it won’t over 450 meters mate lol

side note if i put a whippet over my bitch the pups wouldn’t have more speed lol or id a done it a long time ago like when i’ve had half saluki greys that are slower then me coursing bred lol

What makes you think a greyhound is slowing down at 450 mts all good greyhounds are still running on strong at 480 mts and further

Just had a quick look; Ballyregan Bob did 44:65 seconds,  16.5 metres per second over 740 metres at Hove . Form Of Magic has the track record 43:49 which is just over 17 metres per second over 740 at Hove. So the time has improved and Form of Magic would , theoretically, beat Ballyreagan Bob by around 16 metres.

Cheets.

So, what you think a coursing bred could run mate, around 500 meter a second or something along those lines?

it needs to run rfast enough to get there and have the gears to keep trying at will lol
