salukixminshaw 1
I would say 10-12 months then start it on easy rabbits Quote Link to post
sandymere 8,263
Breeding will play a part as a big deerhound cross will mature physically a lot slower than a little whippet type. Quote Link to post
Guest world.hunters
6mnth maybe a little bit early but it all depends on your dog mate and how mature she is etc, you will know yourself when the dog is ready, you could do as i did and take pup out with air rifle retreiving shot game pigeons squirrels rabbits etc, as this has helped him a great deal, first took storm out on lamp at about 30weeks old, but thats just my oppinion of course, all the best with the pup mate im sure you will do her justice. w.h Quote Link to post
bill88 6
Had my beddyxwhippet out with the ferts since she was about 8 months, but i wont let her run in the open till she's about 12 months. As Sandymere says,a big breed will mature much slower than a smaller more slightly built dog.Take your time mate,i've never seen a dog ruined from being a puppy too long.Same as pumping young dogs full of protien, its just forcing the dog to mature and grow too quickly.JMHO,Bill Quote Link to post

MikeTheDog 153
"Patience grasshopper".... ..Like some others have said, wait 'til your whelp is about 10-12 months old . Your pup may be mature in mind but it aint mature in body, I would hate to read a post from you asking advise about 'opening up' or what do I do about injuries etc....Just my opinion of course.
