Ossie n Arch 1,682
I suffer terribly in the Winter. I get what we call at work "Brickies Fannies" Splits at the end/sides of my finger nails. Effing painful and you always seem the catch them, thus opening them up again. The only thing I find works is this http://www.okeeffesco.com/working-hands A bit sticky but it does the job.
Accip74 7,112
Thanks for the above tips! Will try everything and anything mentioned to be honest I don't care how wacky I feel for anyone that has it cause it's terrible, pain in the arse I'm constantly trying to hide them when out it looks like I've been rubbing my hands with thorny bushes and there unbelievably dry. The knuckles are completely done in, but the cuts and cracks are the embarrassing bit, especially being female. I can't get my head round why I've got it though yes I work with my hands a lot but I'm only in 20's you'd think my skin would bounce back and heal quick but no such luck. My hands were at their very worst in my 20s because I didn't wear gloves, they are a pain at times & not always practical, but it's the only thing that really works....

Lid 194
Gloves for protection whenever you can and use a cheap handcream at night, like Atrixo. I've heard that you can apply some creams heavily and then put cotton gloves on at night, though I not tried it. Ungeuntum merck is also very good and still cheaper than that L'occitane stuff. MoChara 1,632
Mix some oats into warm olive oil and soak your hands in the solution for 15 minutes at night (or when your hands are not likely to take any further abuse for the day). No jokes about getting your oats, please ! that actually sounds quite nice will be trying this tonight!
MoChara 1,632
Ok well I've searched for the creams the doctor gave me and can't find the names one was a metal tube and other a large tub with a pump... but here's what I've tried and failed with - 1. The red lid Norwegian hand cream for chapped hands 2. Skin so soft (perfumed so stung like a bitch) 3. E45 the red one SOS I think it's called 4. Other branded moisturisers 4. Vaseline 5. Plain old olive oil (alone) 6. Baby oil (And lid I use the overnight cotton gloves for moisturiser) I'm sure there's more I've tried but not coming to mind at minute. Lenmcharristar 9,921
Just get him to wrap in in a sheet of sandpaper light grade then working his way up to heavy grade, whilst enjoying himself, thus making it tough so your hands never hurt him again haha

My sister is a chiropodist and says it also works for hard or dry skin on your feet, but she swears by it on your hands. Make sure the oats are softened a bit first. Hope it works for you, Mo ! gnasher16 30,513
My hands are completely f****d structurally, had loads of ops to remove floating bone etc but skin wise they,re not too bad.....having lifted weights for many years i know only too well how your training can be put back from ripping calluses off so i got into the habit of trimming bits off with tiny nail scissors, rubbing them down level to the palm with a punice stone and using a very heavier moisturiser.......dont sound very manly i know but its essential for a bodybuilder who wont wear gloves and cant afford to lose days......it wont stop a callus from forming but done a few times per week it can often stop them ripping open.
