zx10mike 137
if your getting into reloading to save money forget it lol,you will become obsessed with accuracy chasing and it will cost more.if you had not mentioned wanting better accuracy then my advice would be go for it. Quote Link to post
ianm 2,594
What do you lads think of the Hornady reloading kit? Had my eye on one in my local shop for quite a while. Just need to save up a bit now Hornady gear is pretty good, i use their dies and press. Quote Link to post

I think if I can put a group inside an inch at 100m and they cost me half price I will be happy enough not to get silly.....I'm not a target shooter, just want a little better than 1.5 inch at 100m, which I don't think is much to ask....And if it works out cheaper, I'd be mad not to Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Lee gear is good, dont forget the Lee factory crimp die, in your cit, inexpensive and superb, it can make a real difference to group sizes. 1 Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
The majority of my reloading gear is RCBS. Its good quality stuff and will outlast me for sure. That being said though I also have some Lee and Hornady kit. It all gets used. I have loads for my .223 and .22-250 that will do .25" to 0.50" at 100 yards. It really didn't take that much tinkering if I'm honest. There is a huge amount of data on the web these days that is so useful. It is addictive, but as one of the posters said earlier in thread, it can also be quite therapeutic. Mind you, listening to the Prodigy at full blast can be a more calming experience than watching one episode of Eastenders! I haven't worked it out exactly, but I think it cost me around 39p per round to reload for the .22-250, and around 33p to reload the .223. 1 Quote Link to post
dixyhmr 62
Was thinking along the same lines and eventually settled on the RCBS supreme press and RCBS dies etc after talking to a few people. Spent a bit on the kit but first loads produced 1/4" groups. Well happy. Very simple with a bit of research and patience, and well worth the initial expenditure in my opinion. Just do a bit of research before you start and read the manuals thoroughly as you'll pick up a few extra pointers this way. Your .223 will probably shoot much better with other factory ammo. Your twist rate will have a influence on the type of ammunition it prefers, but like you said, it isn't cheap to try different brands, and there's no guarantee that the accuracy won't alter from batch to batch ( I've had this issue a couple of times ). To be honest though, with the .223 I'd expect a different brand would give 1" groups easily enough. 1 Quote Link to post
