Jairon Fletcher 29
More like Bronze... On a cold friday night around 9:30pm, me and 1 other team member had been contacted to take out the un-wanted residents at a shed, the shed was mainly used to store "muck spreaders" and only briefly held livestock (when needed to) in winter months. The two of us loaded the S410's 10 shot clip and creeped up towards our fortress door. Operation "night-night" was go. As we walked the road/path to the shed we noticed as we got closer more and more pigeons were flying out! We stalled ourselves and waited, but everytime we got closer more flew out. This was a total unexpected disaster for the operation as if they were flying out there wouldnt be as many to shoot. We set up the hide of mesh covering and sticks next to about 10 trees in a small patch next to the road way. As we waited we positioned the scope over our main hole in the shed, the flood lights provided enough light to see the hole they'd escape from and if we saw anything move the torch was shon on that area to dazzle the bird so we could have a shot... this wasn't working. I was up first for the first clip and then we'd swap over, it's not even worth writing about... 10 shots and no hits. A terrible couple of hours it was. We decided to move into the shed to get atleast something, at this point it wasn't numbers it was about not leaving empty handed. We slid open the door and I poked the gun uppwards with the tactical torch attachment shining to the beams and metal shelves and nests, damage from the pigeon poop was clear, we walked over to the far corner keeping steady eyes. Pigeon in sight! We spotted our first target, this ferrel was going down, not just for the point we hadn't had one but to keep a clean reputation that the How To Hunting team, get the job done. I hovered over it, took the cm right on the sights into consideration and pulled the trigger... 1 shot... 1 kill. perfect neck shot, no disturbance and little noise from the gun. We had succeeded in not sucking as much as having nothing... that's something? We walked our way up a metal stair cast to an upstairs storage, blackened shelves gave cover and wooden boards gave support for the gun and good sights meant everything below was in danger. We waited... 12;30 in the cold and dark and fearing sleep would get to me (and that I have work in the morning), we had 1 last torch around. This was the bronze moment we wanted. A shelf we hadn't noticed held a small pigeon party of 4, we attached the nitesight and a supressor to the gun, we needed all 4 and seeing as it was late and dark and we wanted to go home (Hoping now with more than 1) and since these were ferrels... we might have a chance, EVEN IF our luck was about as good as a chocolate fireguard. My other team member with me turned off all lighting (Mobiles and torches) and I set up the scope for the first shot, hovering over the breast of the first ferrel. I pulled the trigger and hit the chest at an angle, it fell off the shelf and fell still, no movement among the others... the tension grew as swear engroped my hands, wiping on my jacket I prepared the next shot. Hoving over the ferrels head... I pulled the trigger... Neck shot. But (due to our luck) it fell onto a piece of corrigated metal! DISASTER! The noise had woken the other two up and they started moving from shelf to shelf, up and down, left and right! We had to make quick movement and take these two out, we detached the nitesite with quick time and dazzled them with the lights from the torch, they stood still and I cropped up and took the shot, 1 hit lower breast, nerves jolting the poor bird around, the other stood still but before I could get a good shot on it, "ferrel had to fly". We left with 4 head but before so we placed pigeon repellent the farmer supplied on the pigeon hot spots. Not our best day, infact our worst this year... But we felt for the two of us Operation "night night" had been succesful in other ways such as just having a good time overall, being outdoors and getting fresh air, and spending time doing a job to help a local farmer getting rid of diseased birds that could affect his income!
