It would be classed as a rivalry yes.....same as Liverpool/Utd would be classed as a rivalry........but Liverpool/Everton is the derby game.....same as Utd/City is the derby game.......some rivalries such as Arsenal/Spurs.....West Ham/Millwall,Celtic/Rangers,the 2 Sheffield clubs,Bristol etc etc are both.

Max , if the neutral supporter dosnt consider it big or important , its not big or important , in most papers around the country it gets very little coverage , as for the fans being the best , a couple of weeks ago it was half empty at half time , and youv got previous for it , a few yrs ago you were 3.0 down to ( I forget who , but maybe Charlton ) and there were ructions because most fans wanted out at half time and the club wouldn't open the gates !!!!! they had to lock you in , , you can deny all you want , the truth is you get decent crowds because your a one club city , your lot are as fickle as anyone else ,

I v seen your idea of what you consider big/famous players , its ridiculous just like your claims about the supporters , and the derby .

Gnash so why is it billed as a Derby if it ain't one ?

A Derby is a game between two rival clubs from the same AREA

And you obviously are too far removed from the ethos of NE football and it's demographics if you think Safc and Nufc fans don't live and work side by side in certain areas .

 

And like iv pointed out its a Massive Derby

Prob the Biggest in England

 

And Sunderland AFC supporters are the equal of Any and Better than Most

 

That was proven yesterday by the accolades from a certain Thiery Henry maybe the Best Striker to EVER grace the Prem

 

And it ain't everyday Support and Atmosphere brings a England Class player to tears.

Its a tv title Max..............the word " derby " is used to describe any game between sides from the same areas ive heard West Ham v Arsenal/Spurs/Chelsea/Fulham all described as London derbies......but the only derby to a West Ham fan is Millwall as they are our rivals !

 

Whats demographics got to do with anything i know kids from the Sunderland area dont go to school with kids from Newcastle ......I know you are not a stupid person Max but you make yourself sound so stupid by just repeating the same words like the more you say it the more true it becomes its what kids do when they first start following a club and thats why i can see folk would think you have only been following football for 5 minutes.

They get decent crowds, but there was still almost 1500 empty seats at their biggest game of the season. The only time they've ever filled the stadium is for a Take That concert ! So much for the best supporters in the land.

Max, where do you get your facts from ? Newcastle sold out there allocation, and fans were warned not to buy tickets in the SUNDERLAND SUPPORTERS SECTIONS, which were still available. I can post proof that Newcastle sold out their allocation, when I get to a PC, but it would be pointless, you only believe what you want to believe.

Agree that NUFC v SAFC is not a derby but is maybe a pretty fierce rivalry, at least as far as their supporters are concerned. As a neutral I can think of at least 10 rivalries in the EPL I'd sooner watch than the Tyne-Wear one though, largely because there's usually fcuk all riding on them.

 

As far as the best supporters..., my impression of Sunderland supporters are that they are among the worst and most fickle in England, if not the UK. They frequently vote with their feet..., and how many managers have they had in the last ten years? How many poor results until the banners are out and wee Dick is shown the door?

 

Edited to add..., best English support I've ever seen were Pompey fans. Got a proper hammering at home (off Arsenal maybe) and never stopped singing the whole 90 mins. Got the plaudits of the away team players and management as well as the commentary & studio team. Proper supporters!

And thats your problem Max you try to come across as a loyal supporter but you dont even know your own club......as an example listen to what the chap on here Astanley just wrote........from reading his posts over the years i can tell he knows football and whether he still attends games now i dont know but at some stage of life its quite obvious he has........he is telling you what a lot of people would be.

 

I go to international tournaments with England where you get a really good cross section of fans,ive had some of the best footie chats with some of the most knowledgable fans ive ever met,mostly from from clubs like Rotherham,Torquay,Orient,Gillingham etc etc fans who will never get to go to big games with their own clubs so international tournaments are everything to them.......the way you come across on here Max you wouldnt last 5 minutes in conversations with such fans.....similar to Astanley they would just f**k you right off because its so obvious you dont know your own club......theres no point saying " im sticking to my guns and f**k em " when you are wrong thats pure igonrance and nasty it makes you sound like a child !

I'm still not sure if you are just having a wind up, but if you are, it makes you look pretty silly. Sunderland have never filled their ground, except maybe once or twice, for a football game, so how can they have "massive" support? They are well supported, but not in the way you think !

IF they were empty, and that's a big IF, then Sunderland must have limited the allocation, because the allocation was sold out. Even if there was "100s" of empty seats in the away end, what about the 1000 in the home sections ? There wasn't 1500 empty seats in the away end, that's certain. Sunderland didn't sell out for their biggest fixture of the season....that's one fact you can't twist or dispute. No one is saying Sunderland isn't well supported, but not in the way you think.
