I'm an amateur weather forecaster of the last 10 year or so and have my own station, something that has served me well over the years working the fells.

Be it getting sheep in and under cover for clipping before the rain arrives or tracking real time data out in the field when harvesting.

This is a good little thing to add to your android phone if you fancy staying dry. Its not up there with the METO subscription I use but for free it's good enough.

Anything to make the job a bit more predictable and more comfortable

Are any of them really if any genuine use? We use several to try and help us plan our moleing day, the last three days forecast have been pants, thankfully I took no notice, it's been stunning everyday, a bit chilly and breezy but dry. Not at all the forecasted rain.

well they are fed direct from the METO at a huge expense to the data provider.by far the best and the only one I use is the NW v6 version.

iv 'e the full yearly data package but radar only is around £3.50 @ month and the best money anyone working outdoors will ever spend.

They arn't a forecasting tool they are live imagery of precipitation as it approaches.

My pest control days are when not on my full time job, so have to go out in all weathers anyway, if I get wet, well i curse myself for doing such a dumb job, when the sunshines I love it, its the best job ever

carry on carrying on, I prefer to plan my days out in the field when possible. Much prefer splitting logs inside or such like when it's pissing down and blowing a gale off the fell.

I grabbed 2 hrs today and set 30 traps that I hadn't planned on doing. The reason being I know its going to piss down most of the day here tomorrow.

they can sit tight until Saturday which will be 5 degrees warmer and much calmer regards the wind.

Bryn, its sensible to plan outings around fine weather, it really should be the law

Don't always happen that way, but if you can change your commitments to fit in with the weather then so the better.

you need to have an idea what the weather is up to first though.

some folk I know couldn't care less what is coming down they just get on with the task ahead, used to be similar myself a lot of years ago. Then I noticed the poultry running for cover to their snug buildings when fronts rolled in. Basically I'm in the chicken camp nowadays and prefer looking out on wild weather rather than being in it wishing I was undercover.

Roll on Monday HP locked in over the UK with temps mid to high teens and no rain of any real nuisance value, May very well end up a 10 dayer this one.

I don't think it will quite make the 10 days I'll give about seven before it starts slipping away S.Easterly but I think it will get warmer then as it pulls in warm air from Spain and the near continent.
