Argon66 6
I feel for you Socks, and I'm not being sarcastic either. Even exercising dogs is a nightmare round here, though where I walk isn't keepered or coppered: just twitchers, ramblers, public 24/7: I even bump into people walking antisocial dogs in the middle of the night. Time to move I think! Mobile phones and "concerned public" are the bane of those of us that occasionally go "off piste" 2 Quote Link to post

paulsmithy83 567
I had a few issues because of the roe. Had an estate head keeper show me round and said take anything you want off here but leave the roe. We like to have a few on here. I said no problem. I assumed he must charge to shoot em or something along those lines. We saw a fox on our travels and he told slip my bitch if want see if she line it, so off she goes.. The fox took into the woods. My bitch follows, bit of banging and crashing then all sudden two roe and my bitch come screaming out. Bit of a course in field then bam she pulled him down only 30 odd feet away from us. Not a good start. As then the owner came from one of the pheasent pens where he was doing some rebuild work and went mad at the both of us. Ended up not having that estate for number of years till changed owners. Now i can hunt all quarry on there. Shame of ban 1 Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
Deer,...Roe, Muntjak , Sika and Fecking Fallow,...really are a pain in the butt It would not be an exaggeration, to say that it's nie-on impossible to have a quiet mouch anywhere around here... Me and the Wife was having a chat about the situation and could not figure out why,.. Back in the day (well,.back in the night )...we never seemed to have any problems with our dogs taking off after the deer... Our dogs were used for deer, so obviously knew all about the feckers,...but it was a rare occurrence to lose them in woodland during the daytime. Maybe they were better trained than the lurchers I now keep,..or perhaps today's crop are just too fecking hot and far better as hunting/mouching types. Maybe there are just too many deer.... Who knows....? Edited April 1, 2015 by Phil Lloyd 2 Quote Link to post
low plains drifter 10,624
Every year the roe population seems to be getting that bit higher, and that's up here in the north east, it must be a nightmare in areas where you've got the other deer species to contend with aswell when you're just trying to have a quiet walk with the dogs. I saw 3 roe running across the field the other morning about 400 metres away on the far side of a hawthorn hedge that has got a strip of game crop either side of it, the young bitch couldn't see them but her nose was up and she was pulling on the lead that I'd only just put her back on Here is one of the big dopey feckers from the end of the season standing looking at me and the dog Edited April 1, 2015 by low plains drifter 2 Quote Link to post
