my uncle up until a few years ago was head keeper at a large estate not far from york and he said in the late 70's, him and my dad were out shooting charlie on the estate when they came across a large "cat" anyway,it was duely shot(!)on inspection it was (his words, not mine) "about the size of a fox,jet black but with large, heavy teeth more like dog teeth than cats" anyway, they didnt know what to make of it so buried it in a ditch and forgot about it!

i used to think it was all bollocks ,until one saturday morning last july i was out and about with my son and the dogs , i was walking down part of the wealden way in sussex, the dogs were off in the woods ,and my son was lagging behind, on the track/path way,so i stopped ,and turned to see where he was,i spotted him straight away with all three dogs working there way back to me,i didnt say anything i knew theyd all catch up,i turned to carry on when directly in front of me crossing on the path from one side of the woods to the other, was a black cat :icon_eek:panther it was completely silent and moving real slow,it took me a few seconds to register what it was, then the adrenalin kicked in and i made my way to where it crossed the ditch,i started into the woods but stopped suddenly and had a bit of a re think about being a little bit unprepaired for any sort of face to face,to be honest i was shitting myself when i thought about my son being there,i told a few people  and reported it monday morning to defra, think what you will :drink:

I expect, having seen some of the more laughable reports I've seen, Dawn, that your cat could well be reported as a " Big Cat " sighting. But could it destroy a full grown Roe Buck? Drag its remains?

Could it kill a Whippet, right in front of the Dogs owner, whilst it's kit looked on? And would the Police break out the ARV and a chopper looking for it afterwards? Would DEFRA then feel the need to first claim a Badger had done the work ~ then " Lose " the DNA samples recovered from the victim / corpse when pressed on the matter?

Would a DEFRA employee have made up the stated fact that anything a bit tasty in this dept was strictly ordered to be sent " Straight upstairs " when I spoke to him?

WHY was the Aldrich Foot Snare lisensed under the Spring Traps Approval Order; To take " Large, Non Indiginous Carnivours ".

Not to mention the absence of answers to my earlier questions.

We may Think we're the kiddies. But don't ye thing the Government know a teentsy bit more that they'll ever let on to us peasents? :hmm:

No, not at this age DS  but mt largest male is much bigger than my Borders and weighs more too, Im not saying what they could or couldnt do, just that its the most likely explanation for most of these sightings.

From what I believe the Whippet thing was never proved, the owner could not say conclusively what attacked his dog, and the injuries were consistent with a Badger? Dont forget DS, the Police will come out for anything that isnt important! its the murders, rapes etc.. they take time in responding too. :D

I have only ever heard of one carcass up a tree, only one, and there was NO evidence a Cat put it there, there were no claw marks on the tree, nor conclusive evidence that the carcass was killed by a Cat at all, in fact it was high enough for a strongish person to have got it there and more likely, very easy with help.

There isnt anything Id like more to be proved to me DS, but there just isnt any proof at all that they are here living in the wild.

The Whippet thing. the second report is from the Scottish big cat society.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/2705063.stm

http://www.scottishbigcats.co.uk/badger.htm

And This is from the BBC / Govt. Inside the first link, Dawn:

" (Police) Officers had warned farmers to be vigilant and to patrol their land in pairs while armed police spent several days trying to track the animal. "

Several Days??? Ok, so the Welsh Police really are That stupid, uninformed and blind to their responsibilities that they'll spend " Several Days " looking for a Badger, in WALES???

" The owner of the dead dog, Mike Sheppard, 62, said he was fuming when he heard the news. He claimed he came face-to-face with two big cats "the size of pumas" when the incident happened.

"They don't know what they're talking about," said Mr Sheppard. "One minute they're saying it's a big predator then they're saying it was a dog or a badger. It's been seen. I've seen it. They're just trying to cover it up. Why? I don't know, but it was definitely not a badger that killed my dog." "

Ah! Well, if the CSI of the Welsh Police Force is some banjo playing, inbred retard, Maybe that explains why Mr Bog Average Welsh Farmer too can't tell a badger from something else, when it's tearing shit out of his own Dog at close range?

And, of course, it's Those twos word against The British Government. Who Should we believe, Dawn? The Top Cop of a Principality? An ordinary man who's personally whitnessed something extraordinary? Or your wonderful Government, with their Looooong history of impartial, squeaky clean and thoroughly honest good judgement in all matters? I mean; Of Course the Welsh Police are led by am imbecile. Of Course the hairs - which were Inconclusive - Could have been from a badger. Or a Meerkat. Or an Orang Utan. All the CSL said was they " Were Not " from a melanistic Leopard. And I've never once yet, any time, any where, suggested there Are free roaming Leopards in UK.

Regards your big pussy being bigger than ye Borders, Dawn (*Shudders!*) I yet beg to doubt that even the younger, fitter version could kill a Roe Buck. Strip it. Then drag it around And - again - be observed at close range, in the glare of full headlights, as the Kupar incident records?

And Still ye neatly side step the core issue of ye own Governments licencing of the Aldrich ~ Hardly surprising; MAFF themselves couldn't wriggle out of That one for me! And I Personally spoke to a DEFRA employee, just a few years ago, who made the above " Upstairs " statement to me.

As for Millets ~ and anyone elses ~ assertion that, because They haven't seen it, it can't exist? Well, fine. There goes the Leaning Tower of Piza, the Grand Canyon and the very cottage I'm sat in as I type! Can't possibly exist, because people like Millet haven't seen them. I mean; Pul Eeeease!

Just what is it with people that they can't bring themselves to lend any credence to such as carries such an over bearing weight of evidence? What's the problem here? Is it the key board " Hunter " thing again? 'No photo's? - Must be lying!'?

Sorry; I'm growing tired of trotting out the facts here, just to have some people say " SHAN'T!!! ". How about some of ye Disprove the stuff I've been putting up here? :hmm: I don't mean sit there poohing and trying to rubbish it. I mean Explain it.

Now I'LL sit back and await ye own, doubtless, fasinating deliberations.

Thankyou.

" (Police) Officers had warned farmers to be vigilant and to patrol their land in pairs while armed police spent several days trying to track the animal. "

Of course they did, it was several weeks later the forensic tests on hair in the dogs mouth, confirmed it was a Badger.

" The owner of the dead dog, Mike Sheppard, 62, said he was fuming when he heard the news. He claimed he came face-to-face with two big cats "the size of pumas" when the incident happened.

Yep, thats what he claimed :D got him some publicity too. unfortunately the tests disproved what he thought he saw.

NOBODY has said people are lying, I have said before I truly believe they think they see them, but for me and in my opinion, they are domesctic Cats pure and simple.

Assuming for a minute that they do live here wild, obviously they must breed, especially if you go on the "she had a baby with her" theory, so doesnt that mean the population must be increasing? Surely the chances of conclusively proving they are breeding and living wild here in the UK would be increased every year with growing numbers?

An atheist was walking through the woods.

"What majestic trees"!

"What powerful rivers"!

"What beautiful animals"!

He said to himself.

As he was walking alongside the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He turned to look. He saw a large cat charge towards him.

He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder & saw that the cat was closing in on him.

He looked over his shoulder again, & cat was even closer. He tripped & fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up but saw that the cat was right on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw & raising his right paw to strike himAt that instant the Atheist cried out, "Oh my God!"

Time Stopped.

The bear froze.

The forest was silent.

As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky. "You deny my existence for all these years, teach others I don't exist and even credit creation to cosmic accident." "Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer"?

The atheist looked directly into the light, "It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps you could make the Cat a Christian"?

"Very Well," said the voice.

The light went out. The sounds of the forest resumed. And the bear dropped his right paw, brought both paws together, bowed his head & spoke:

"Lord bless this food, which I am about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord, Amen

Don't want too get caught up with this but the Scottish wildcat has been breeding for millenia and as Ditch points out how many gamies have seen one ?. I took the nippers too Dumfries W.L.P once and the keeper there said that off all the cats he had worked with all over the world it was the most ferocious and elusive nighe on impossible too find. I lived in Argyle for years and saw out else but not the sylvester.

 Again you cherry pick my points to suit ye own view, Dawn. Ye've completely side stepped, as is becoming usual for ye here, the main issues I repeatedly raise. And That is a down right fabrication. READ the very BBC / Government sponsered article you yeself thrust at us and ye'll see it clearly states the tests were " Inconclusive ". Then they tack on that the hairs " Could have been badger. ". As I say above; By that 'reasoning' they might equelly have been Orang Utan.

Please return to post # 9 and start providing your Answers. Otherwise this thread will only continue with the vast majority of contributors stating they believe there are cats out there. Me repeating saliant facts like a parrot and you slipping and sliding as you attempt to 'prove' your own hunch by sheer force of will and or monotony.
