Tozer 385
This is what you should end up with when a dog comes across a stoat. and your dog ends up stinking when it sprays it Quote Link to post
haymin 2,465
Iv never came across a stoat or weasel with the dogs , I would imagine they would just think it was a ferret and move on ?? Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
That's what I imagine a fair few dogs would do Jim. My dogs give my ferrets a wide berth in the yard, less so when working obviously cause they are on the job, but I would assume a few dogs, seeing a stoat or weasel for the first time would associate it with a ferret, until it attacked them and they had to defend themselves against the devils feking pet, evil wee feckers that they are. 1 Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,089
Think the smell from a ferret would be totally different from a stoat or weasel and the dog would know the difference just my thoughts 1 Quote Link to post
keepitcovert 842
Some fair points on a dog differentiating between ferrets and other Mustelidae. My dogs have only once killed a stoat purely from the fact that they were near enough when it exited a warren i was ferreting. A friend of mine had a beddy cross that couldnt really be trusted on ferrets , but would ignore squirells, and yet would kill a fox or feral cat with ease. Fact is stoats and weasels are i wont say pound for pound, but gram for gram are the bravest and most ferocious predators in britain , Barring all these mysterious unseen large cats. 2 Quote Link to post
