David Aiken 253
Hi all, I am trying to age an Anschutz. How long has the Anschutz 1417 .22lr been available from the factory in thumbhole stock? (ie, not as an after market stock) Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Best surefire way to know is to email Anschutz and ask them the date of manufacture using the serial number. 1 Quote Link to post
David Aiken 253
I was hoping to date with out the serial number as I see ads for the 1417 which say "nearly new", I was wondering how long they had been around to get an idea as to "how new"? Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
If you've bought it second hand the previous owner could have changed the stock at some point. Quote Link to post
Cedric 132
Take it with a pinch of salt! If all the ads that said" nearly new" were correct most of the rifles in the world were made last year ! Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
i wouldnt bother buying new. i have only ever had one rifle from new. and that was a 22lr. all the others. have been second hand. you get a better deal second hand. and as the 22lr uses very little powder. the chances of one being shot out are very slim. they come from factory with a thumbhole stock. but they cost more of course then the standard ambi stock that is on most of them. ruag is the uk importer for these rifles. i have one and its super accurate. got scope. rings. moderator and eley ammo. 575. i love the 22lr great fun plinking and rabbiting. but a lack of rabbits around this area has seen the rifle out the cabinet about twice in 3 years ! dont be put off buy secondhand rifles. but if you go new you have to pay a good wedge for one. shropshire dan 467
Absolutely second hand all the way Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
Definitely S/H for rimfires, where possible. S/H Centrefires are a different bag. Either know the history, or get it checked out by a gunsmith. Quote Link to post
zx10mike 137
only ever buy new myself because no one ever seems to look after and care for a rifle like i do.i spend alot but when i sell they look as good as new .ask youself how many adverts you have seen where people say nearly shot out ,never cleaned, mod left on in cabinet. 1 Quote Link to post
