dare 1,103
Are your dogs showing to be fitter than those owned by people who dont build their own pool? not against it or anything i just wonder is there much point to it? guess benefits the joints but been plenty of worked dogs make it to old age without problems. Griz 89
All of the techniques mentioned are good for exercise and conditioning , but , mill work is the best for building wind and endurance. You can have the dog run at different speeds and vary the tension to control the effort needed to turn the mill......Mills are used by pit bull owners to achieve optimum conditioning that allows the dog to work for well over an hour at a high energy demand ........The demand for energy and strenght for a pit dog is much higher than an earth dog, considering that they are constantly wrestling for control when at work.......Mills come in several forms , and don't need to be fancy.....There are many treadmills sitting around peoples homes after they used them for a short time and gave up on the fitness craze......Check around and you will likely find one for little or nothing....These electric ones , work just fine for a dog and can often be had for very little money .......Another exercise that really works for muscular endurance is to attach a weight to a harness and have the dog pull that for awhile. We used old window weights, shaped like a cylinder......The dog will quickly improve strenght and endurance. Rabbit Hunter 6,613
They're a good idea for your own piece of mind, but I think regular exercise is enough for an 'earth dog'. After all when pitbulls used to be fought they were both equally conditioned to the optimum etc but how many foxes run on treadmills? That's my view anyway. Quote Link to post
HPR 1,160
How many dogs cover the same milege as a fox per day 1 Quote Link to post

HPR 1,160
Yeah and your opinion is right they can . but foxes are fit Quote Link to post
jetro 5,349
Ill show you the sledge we made can slot weights on it etcgot one of those here as well. Trying to up load a photo but didn't figure it out yet. Is it the type that you can put the weight lifters weights on it. Also just to add it is a good idea to have the right fitting harness for the dog when training like this. It reduces the chance of damages ie sprains pulled muscles ext. Atb j. Quote Link to post
