Immigrating To Canada

Took this pic this afternoon,walking along a river looking for a decent spot to fish,the rivers frozen but there's one open stretch packed with wildfowl,there was a guy there laying out lines of grain,I had a chat with him,he shoots duck and geese locally,but said he always gives them a hand when the weather is hard,he fed them today with 50kg of grain.

you wonna see the geese and ducks here mate, there's literally thousands, the other day the sky was full of ducks, there must of been a thousand of them flying around like a flock of starlings, iv'e never seen that before, the snow here has almost gone now, its like a summers day lol, i think we have been very lucky with the weather this year, maybe a few more dumps of snow left to come, did you get to do a bit of fishing in the end?

I was here last November Tilly,massive amounts of geese on the move then,the sky always filled with skeins.Havent fished yet mate,still got a few weeks to go so plenty of time.Just spent the morning skating,did about 5 kilometres down the ice and came across a bloke who had been knocked out in a fall,ice ambulance stretchered him off down the canal.My missus told me people use the canal during the winter to commute into work,I saw a guy riding a quad and some woman with an ice pushchair contraption skating past with her baby in it.

Pike and walleye mate,won't be till next week however as we are going to have a guided tour of an underground 4 storey 300 room cold War nuclear bunker over the weekend,it was built to withstand a 5 megaton blast from 2 kilometres,looks an interesting place.

I really want to go to canada fishing for sturgeon but with a growing family and looking at the cost of it I cant see it happenin.

can you imagine HSE over here if canals froze over and council allowed people to skate to work!!!!

I really want to go to canada fishing for sturgeon but with a growing family and looking at the cost of it I cant see it happenin.

People are geared up for the cold here mate,we had a really heavy snowstorm on Tuesday,Wednesday morning the highways were cleared,and private citizens were clearing side roads with their dodge Rams with snowploughs mounted on the front,or big snow blowing machines,we passed a few snow drifts earlier that must be 12 feet tall.When the ice is thick enough on the canal to skate into the city it's announced on TV,it's an arterial route from the outskirts right into the city centre,they just bang on a pair of skates and head to the office or into town shopping.

talking of snow drifts, our mate we lodged with had a drift up the side of his house to the upstairs bathroom window!!! when you buy a house here, the rule is you have to clear the snow from the pathway at the front, and all the paths that run along side the canels and parks are all cleared with a small snow ploughs, like you say mack there geared up for the cold, i haven't seen anything stop going due to the snow/cold,

Indeed,my missus doesn't think so though,we just spent an hour and a half in an archery shop,I tried a few bows,she was standing in the background rolling her eyes deep sigh'ing,how can anyone not enjoy time well spent in an archery shop?

Yes mate,every house has a snowblower,I had a go of it the other day,my missus stood the wrong side and ended up looking like frostie the snow woman when I covered her in powder snow.

Booking holiday to Canada in Aug.starting in Vancouver,any suggestions to werd to visit.hunting,fishing.may rent s small cabin near water if poss.is hiring a car the way,or ?got wife and kids coming too.

good to here your having a holiday here mate, you will love it, you wont want to go back home, i couldn't point you in the right direction for Vancouver but i would expect its the same as most places you just buy a fishing licence and pretty much fish anywhere, if you go to a cabella's store you can pick up a fishing guide as to where the lakes/rivers are, and what your allowed to fish for, the guys there will tell you what to use as bait/lure,they are really friendly people, even drew me a map to help, i fished Vancouver island BC, Yellowknife NWT, (obviously different licences), in BC renting a cabin by the lake is most peoples dream which pushes the price up, Vancouver can be pricey, you definitely need a car tho, try and get one included in a package deal back home, as they can work out dearer hear as we found out the hard way once.....lol, if your wife and kids are into fishing, your have the best time, if there not........your screwed............no only joking! lol, there's still other things, nice shopping malls with an array of different foods, good picnic areas, scenic walks, usually good restaurants in most places, points of interest are all around the place, i hope there's no vegetarians amongst you, as the steaks here are to die for, big,fat,thick,juicy,and cheap! yum yum. tilly

think were booking Canada after florida here soon, to be honest I'd rather get dropped off in Canada and let the others enjoy florida lol
