Rowan 308
no legal requirement to have separate cabinets or to remove the bolts , some just like to do it as best practice. Just keep your ammo separate and securely locked away. Quote Link to post
Skull Hooker 185
My FEO tried that one when he visited, the bolts must be kept separate from the guns. When I questioned the exact legislation that instructed me to do that, he looked sheepish before offering.. " well,,that's what I like to see". He wanted to see the bolts within the inner safe of the gunsafe, the ammo safe. But if you examine it, its ridiculous, The kind of blokes ( or maybe girls) who would burgle your house and decide to nick your guns would not look around for the keys, they'd rip the whole safe out, so they get everything, including ammo, to open at leisure in some warehouse later with proper equipment. I can understand that around vehicles, it makes sense, but they have to go that stupid yard too far. Power mad. I once had an FEO come round my house and examine my shotgun, He turned on me and exploded, telling me that it was totally irresponsible to store the shotgun loaded. When I tried to point out that they were something called snap caps, he could have crawled down a mouse hole, making some sort of blustered excuse under his breath. 3 Quote Link to post

delswal 3,819
Granted it's not a legal requirement to store your rifle and bolt separate, I do it any way just out of habit no other reason, if the FEO asks you to do it why not just do it? Surely it is better to patronise him than it is to p*ss him off. Quote Link to post
