neil cooney 10,416
I remember that place well Fatman. Standing in the garden and the fox sticking his mask out of the ivy before running the top of the wall and jumping for it. 1 Quote Link to post
fat man 4,741
I remember that place well Fatman. Standing in the garden and the fox sticking his mask out of the ivy before running the top of the wall and jumping for it. It was a lot of guess work as to where the fox would try and make his escape, with only a couple of lurchers hard to cover it all but we averaged 50-50. Quote Link to post
Pollyanna 1
I know a walled wood. The walls are about seven feet high and made of sandstone. Foxes come and go over those walls with ease, especially when they are being chased! Watched hunted foxes running the top of the wall too even though it has a pointed coping stone along the top. neil cooney 10,416
One walled garden I know of was impenetrable by foxes as there was no ivy etc. growing on it and the keeper reared plenty of fowl in it. Then a tree blew over on the outside and lay up against the wall. The keeper was quick of the mark and had a snare on it straight away and if I remember correctly he had 7 or 8 foxes of it before cutting the tree up. You have to stay one step ahead when it comes to Mr Fox. 1 Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
Back in the good 'ol days when we used to run the semi-urbans over on the Wirral (you know that game Pablo ), seen foxes scale sixes and sevens with ease, higher too. Wall, wood or mesh, living in that enviroment they sure get the measure of it. Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Worked in Bristol university long time ago and we used have our lunch in a long green house tunnel type .The gardener had a fox come regular and would let us throw bits of food for it but never came in .It lead out in the sun on his borders in the walled garden we were repairing taking no notice of 4 lads chipping away at the pointing to repoint .The owner of the firm we were on for turned up one day and let his Russel out which raced about putting up charlie that casually ran up a corner of the 8 ft wall and stood on top looking down at the frenzied pet .I honestly think it could of done 15 ft in a corner with the ease it went up. I remember bolting a barn one time on the day of a hunt ,a lawn meet .Terrier bayed in the bales then quiet like it had gone but none of the 3 present had seen anything.I stood back and charlie was on the roof .Turned out there was a broken purling in the middle where a sheet had gone through ,the purling was about 3 ft from the bales and charlie had scrambled up to get away from the terrier no mean feat as it was only 3 inches wide and 10ft long.Let him be but he wasnt as lucky next time when the terrier had him between the bales and Yorkshire boarding. Saw one run or more apt would be hover ,over a slurry pit from one side to the other with terrier flayling in the shit . Got to hand it to them they are survivors . Quote Link to post
