Rabid 1,936
Oh spot on mate, lovely job, just the ticket, pigs are next on my list, once I got my head round it all.
WILF 47,345
That brilliant mate, nice to see what 2 pigs actually look like when butchered. I have just come in for a cup of tea after starting the fencing for the pig enclosure. Thanks for sharing
PeskyWabbits 464
Hello. I have just done this with 2 Gloucester Old Spots. There were 3 of us in the Pig Club. I did all the donkey work and they lived in my paddock. The other two members paid for the pigs - £30 each (3 months old), then all the food. In November the pigs were slaughtered and I got the meat from one pig and the other members shared the other. I got all the legs and liver and kidneys because the members were soft (not pig members - they were girls). The total cost was about £400 both both pigs, including food, worming, slaughtering, butchering. You can do it cheaper if you have a good source of legal food, eg none that has been in a food processing area. You can peel your carrots in your garage and feed thos to your pigs, but not in the kitchen. It is to do with bacterial build up etc.. And if you are prepared to butcher them yourself - how big is your kitchen table? I will be doing it again next year. The hardest bit is probably the day after they are gone and you are stood in the pig paddock.
