Name That Animal...

I'm sure there's a better section to ask this but here goes....to all you pest controllers....

This isn't a quiz as I don't know the answers, hence the questions.

Question 1: I was at my new gaff this morning having a nosey round the garden and as I was looking at the veg patch, I saw something brown dart past. At first I thought it was a mouse, then I checked where it had gone and it had gone down a tiny hole in the earth. Further inspection found a few more of these holes in the earth and the grass, all close to the veg patch. They were all about 1-1 1/2" in diameter, perfectly round and no pile of earth beside them.

What do you reckon it was that made them? And can they be got rid of?

Question 2: Further away from the house I saw half a dozen other places animals had been. These were bigger, probably 3" across, but weren't holes. They were about 1" deep and the grass round them had sort of been dragged back.

Same question as above.

Cheers.

Seriously though, it sounds as if in the first instance you have the very rare Teifi valley shrew. If you have they will have to turn your ground into a SSSI which means you cannot touch the ground.

I haven't got a 243. Do you reckon a 308 will do it? :hmm:
