Raymond 618
Packed the ferrets and gear away about 2 weeks ago.Itching like mad since.A friend who started ferreting with me this season got permission of his friend to walk some fields yesterday , loads of burrows and a few rabbits where seen. Yes like kids in a sweet shop we decided to put our lives at risk and get out for a couple of hours while the mothers are still in bed (mothers day) We hit the road early. We did that so we could get back to help the kids with the breakfast in bed for the mothers. First rabbit was a couple of feet dig, no dogs where aloud as the surrounding fields had sheep in them. So we just let the ferret do his thing. In anyway a few burrows later we get a mark of 3foot.Ferret holding well,so we dug down.We opened up to a fox.Yeah we couldnt believe it. The sheep farmers will be delighted. The ferret stayed till dug to, made some good terriers look bad. I will be breeding from said buck/hob ferret to hold back a buck for next season. Pic will be uploaded from friends phone. Might start my own line of foxing ferrets. Ended the day 4 rabbits and 1 fox. Roll on the winter 7 Quote Link to post

Raymond 618
tell me about it, I did dig down to a couple of ginger rabbits over the winter. The ferret was lucky I think. He was clamped onto the foxes side and only let go when I broke through to him 1 Quote Link to post
CraignTod 278
Raymond did the "rabbit" hole look any different? I.e. Larger and rabbit poo or fox poo? Just goes to show, easy caught out when the hole looks like any other rabbit hole 1 Quote Link to post
Raymond 618
There was a few if you want to call it normal sized rabbit holes. After we dug to the fox we found a couple of holes a bit bigger. These where hidden more by some cover. Quote Link to post

Raymond 618
Very good mate I've been ferreting 12 years bolted stoats, weasels, squirrels and little owls but never had a fox Gaz Hopefully it should be lucky for us and help spread permission into surrounding land. Hes a good ferret and I was lucky not to lose him. 2 Quote Link to post

rabbit demon 302
Nice write up and good pics of your foxes lads. Been hearing more of people out ferreting catching or bolting foxes. Might not be the intended quarry but well done... a catch is catch to me. Places i go is full of foxes. Never bolted one or came across one in a burrow yet thankfully. their either lucky ferrets or hard as fook. 1 Quote Link to post
